new build questions/problems

Recently finished my first build with the help of many of you, thank you.

ASPIRE X-Dreamer ATX case
FSP Group 350w psu
ASUS P5GD1-VM micro mobo
Celeron D 2.8 Ghz processor
WD Caviar 80GB SATA HDD
CORSAIR ValueSelect 1GB (2 x 512MB) DDR SDRAM
LITE-ON CD/DVD-RW
VISION 17" LCD monitor
Logitech X-230 2.1 speakers
XP Pro SP2

Everything went rather smoothly, just have a few questions and problems that I've run into:

1) There are 4 RAM banks on the mobo, 2 black & 2 blue, alternating colors. I currently have the 2 sticks in the 2 left-most banks, blue & black. My computer detects both sticks so it must be right. But intuitively, I would think both sticks should go in either both blue, or both black banks. Does it matter?

2) I don't have the hibernate option when I hit shift on the shut down menu. Is this option only for the home edition?

3) I just got the speakers today, pretty happy with them in regards to music. I tried playing a DVD, and there was no sound. Is this a driver problem?

thanks in advance

Installing sticks according to the colours will enable "dual channel" functionality for the RAM. This only applies when you have two identical sticks.

You also have to enable the hibernate option in the "Power" settings in the control panel.

Congratulations on your new build!

That's easy enough.

Is there some kinda configuration to enable dual channel, or is it automatic?

It should detect it automatically.

Automatically, as long as the modules are in the correct slots.
