Pissed Oh Man....I need help!

Hi everyone,

Ok I'll get right to it. I bought this kit:

http://www.ncix.com/products/index.p...ufacture=Intel

and I put it together. I have built a few computers from scratch in the past and this one just did not co-operate. I have and existing HDD with windows xp already installed on it. I double checked the jumper settings. So when everything was finished I booted it up. It showed the boot select menu (start windows normally, safe mode, etc.) so i select normal. It then restarts and goes right back to that screen. Anyways this happens a few times. I checked my HDD jumper settings, tried switching RAM between slots and with only one, I removed everything except the RAM, HDD and mobo...still same thing. I checked all my BIOS settings, all correct (checked with the manual and even tried resetting them), I tried a different HDD also with windows XP installed.....same thing. I tried a different 80 pin cable, I tried using the IDE2 slot, I doubled checked my CPU install....it's good, temp reads 50 degrees.

I seriously tried every single thing I could think of...and now I fear my mobo is faulty. You never actually hear the HDD spool up to boot, it just restarts right after you select any option from the menu...including safe mode, and last known good config. I tried resetting the CMOS, I tried kicking it right in the case window, I tried holding my tongue every different way I could think of.

ANY ideas would be greatly appreciated before I send this back for warranty.

Thanks alot.

First, I'd stop kicking your computer. That kind of stuff ends up coming around and biting you in the behind

With a kit for $300 Canadian, I doubt the power supply would be worth its weight in gold (or not even gold...)

Can you tell us what brand it is?

For others conveience, the specs are:
Intel Pentium D 805 2.66GHZ Dual Core - Retail
ASRock 775VM800 mATX P4M800
Samsung PC3200 512MB DDR400

you should do a clean install of windows when you get a new mobo.

You need to do a repair reinstall of Windows. You are in a restart loop, if you could see the bluescreen, it would say inaccessible boot device. Instructions for a repair reinstall are in the Tips and Tricks forum.

[UPDATE]

Hi,
I tried the system recovery but it did not work, perhaps beyond repair. I then did a full format and installed windows XP...everything worked fine, it booted up everytime.

Many thanks.

I didn't think you could take a HDD with the os installed and just put it in any system.

Sure you can - depending on several factors, which is not the topic of this thread. Have you looked at the sticky threads in Tips and Tricks talking about moving hard drives?
