That's a dandy of a power supply, but I don't think it could handle TWO 7900GT overclocked cards. It'd be OK for one, but if you want two later on, you'd be stretching it. Look at one of the ones here, in the Dual GeForce 7900 GTX or Dual GeForce 7800 GTX 512 MB section.

I assume you'll be overclocking since you got an Opteron plus DDR433 XMS RAM - just another reason to get a powerful power supply (a FSP or Sparkle on the list would be good).

I think the 600W version would be OK. Looking at the 12V rails is the most important thing to do. The total amperage on the Antec's 12V rail is 38A and the FSP's is 60A. The Antec might be OK, but I'd hate to see you have stability problems if you add another 7900GT KO (especially if you overclock the CPU, as that adds extra strain to the PSU).

After reading some reveiws on the 600w im gonna shy away and stick with the 700w, It had better reveiws.

So do i have anything that wont work well together? Anyone else have opinions on this build? It will be used for gaming primarily, and later i will upgrade to SLI.

The retail processor comes with a heatsink/fan and a thermal interface - you don't need the Arctic Silver, unless you simply want to have a tube sitting around for later use somewhere.

Nice power supply, but not SLI-certified.

If you are going to use a Zalman on the Opteron, buy an OEM processor.

It's not a BAD idea - but you void the warranty on a retail processor by using an aftermarket heatsink - the OEM processor doesn't come with a heatsink and the warranty is whatever the vendor puts on it anyway. Why pay for an extra heatsink you won't be using? OEM is usually cheaper.

I've got the 600 watt FSP and all I can say is it is outstanding (as well as a fair amount of $ cheaper). You'll have no problems with it, FSP makes great power supplies. I wouldn't put too much emphasis on Newegg reviews, half the time the people writing them have no clue.........

It does have SLI support though

Most those bad reviews are just they had bad luck. Not every thing you get is guaranteed to work the right way with electronics. You usually have a 95-97% chance of a component being good

Support is not the same thing as certification. If it's certified, it's gone through Nvidia's labs and is tested to work right. I don't see any OCZ units on the list, but that doesn't necessarily mean they won't work right - but I prefer to buy a product which the manufacturer cares enough about its image to submit it for certification.

We don't know whether OCZ hasn't bothered to submit samples for certification, or whether they have and they failed.

Oh, I agree completely on the probability of failure with new electronics. It doesn't change my perception of reviewers on Newegg however....

There are some cases like the CM Stacker that seem to be built for 2 power supplies. Anyone ever try that?
