Bought Oblivion...

SAPPHIRE 100154L Radeon X1800XT 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card - Retail

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102698

Hopefully its all I need.

Specs right now:
Windows XP
Intel Pent. 4A 1800MHz
Nvidia GeForce FX 5200 (128MB)
DRAM Slot1: 512MB DDR SDRAM
DRAM Slot2: 1024MB DDR SDRAM

By the way. In my personal System Info it says this:

Physical Memory-
Total: 1534
Used: 415
Free: 1118
Utalization: 27%

That a good or bad thing.

Edit: Do I even have a slot for PCI Express?

You don't have a PCI-Express video slot.
Also your processor doesn't meet the minimum requirement of 2.0 GHz for the game.
If by some good luck you get a really cheap deal on a 2.0 that will run in your rig (e-bay?) you can then get a 6600(non GT) to go with it but I wouldn't go beyond $100 or so for everything.
Your best bet would be to start saving for the new build now.

Intel is coming out with the Conroe is a few weeks, like another 2 or 3.
It's a much better processor and Intel will be making a point of pricing it competitively.

Hold off till then.

Why don't you get a new drive, not a Open Box one? You can get a LITE-ON burner for $35.

I'd get the Intel 930. It's much cheaper and is a better performer (twice as much cache) and runs cooler (65nm process vs 90nm).

Drop the sound card. The onboard sound on the motherboard is probably better or the same as a $20 card. Don't forget your OS - Win XP Home OEM is $90.

Actually I was going to swap Sound cards. Put the new one in this computer and the one in this computer in the new one.

This one blue?

That one, yes. Pam brought up a good point though - you may want to wait a bit until Conroe comes out. Your choice though.

If the current computer has onboard sound you could just switch to that. Otherwise, that would work too.

you also shouldn't use two different sizes or kinds of RAM. I noticed you said you have one stick of 512MB and one stick of 1GB

That's fine in the old machine - it doesn't support dual channel. He's selected a dual channel kit for the new build, which is appropriate. However, I think I'd get a 2gb kit, high end games will run better.

RAM - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145527

that'll work right, as far as I can tell same stuff as the 2 x 512's.

the mobo you want supports ddr2 667 so get that istead of the ddr2 533 that you stated above, and the processor you want doesn't have hyper threading support

The only dual core Intels that support hyperthreading are the $1000 Extreme Editions. The 930 is a very good choice - and DDR2-533 is sufficient, on a 800 bus processor using DDR2-667 doesn't gain you anything unless you are overclocking - which Intel boards won't do. If you are planning on overclocking, you would want something from Abit, Asus, or Foxconn.

That's why if you want dual core I would go with AMD. I suggested the DDR2 667 for future use if you want to upgrade a little. Also games right now don't take advantage of dual core so if you want to save a little money stck with single core.

The dvd burner will play dvds too so I would suggest getting a cd rom\cd burner drive instead of the dvd rom drive

Also you could save a little money with this mobo

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813121289

I'd also suggest this monitor and it has a 2ms response time

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824014111

you need a better sound card too (if it's for gaming) like this one

No, ammo - that motherboard has onboard video. The reason for the cheap soundcard has already been stated. That's a valid monitor suggestion. The ideal combo with 2 opticals is exactly what is in the list. Use the rom drive for reading everything, the burner for burning everything. If you have a need for a memory card reader, look at this floppy drive:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16821104104

Go for it, looks good to me, Napalm.

Nope - it only has one IDE channel. You don't need a CDROM, the 2 you have are fine. Its not worth the big cost premium to find a SATA optical drive.

Should I get something to cool down the motherboard? Reading the reviews, seems like it gets hot.

That is a heatsink for your CPU. I wouldn't bother with that one unless you're overclocking.

If you're worried about heat in the system, buy a large case fan to keep things cool.

The X1800XT is a great card for the money. Check out the Geforce 7900GT. It packs a big punch for around $300.
