Fun Fun

Ok heres what I have now, feel free to change anything. If theres something more bang for the buck or that will save money to go else where let me know. I prefer Intel since AMD is going through some changes. ATI is the video card I have now so I just stuck with what I knew but if something else is better. This system is mostly going for games (Age of Empirs 3, W.O.W. and such) but also for internet and downloading music. My buget is around 1k but thats not including the stuff that can be put off until later like monitor.

get a different psu. Don't skimp money on it. Get different RAM too. That first ram is known to have some stability problems.. Go with the kingston but you need to know your motherboards compatibility first. I suggest this mobo

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131538

and this psu http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817103937

also I suggest this video card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102496

If you decide you want a sound card

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16829102178

I also suggest this case. It has a good psu in it and it's a good case. That case you want already has a psu in it but it's no good. Otherwise get the psu I suggested up top and that case you want

Yeah, a 500 watt PSU that costs only $28 isn't going to be very good at all. You may not even need 500 watts, it'll depend on the other components you pick out. This power supply is a good one that will power most home computers except for high end gaming rigs.

And why did you choose a AGP video card? That's really going to limit your motherboard options as everything now comes with PCI-Express 16 now.

You might want to look for a SATA hard drive that has 16MB cache instead of 8MB. Take a look at this Seagate HDD.

Psu

How can you tell if the psu that comes with a case is any good or not? I really like the light up cases but dont want to drop $80 for a case then another $65 for the power. Ill take a lesser case with a good PSU if theres going to be that much of a difference. Really like this one, is the power any good, again how can you tell. Thanks

I would still get a PSU that has been recommended here. The PSUs that come with cases are generally of low to fair quailty and most are not ATX 2.0 standard which is needed with most present day mother boards.

The bottom line is that Antec and Enlight are the only manufacturers I know that consistantly bundle quality power supplies with their cases. A significant irony is that I know of no 'gaming' style cases like the Xion you linked to that bundle power supplies capable of running a gaming system.

Try and find a case without a power supply; if you can't manage that then don't feel too bad about junking the included one - it's quite probably almost worthless.

The Antec Smartpower in your original list is a quality unit.

I see you changed your original post to include a lot of my recommendations. I think you'll be very happy with them. There is also a thread that I will put a link to that will let you know what psu's are the good brands to buy.

That one looks good to me. Hows the quality? About 6yrs ago I bought a Sony 19" Trintron flat screen and have been spoiled ever since. As far as price, well bang for buck and with in reason. Still have to anwser for all these purchases and a 43" widescreen might make her mad everytime she sees it

that dvd drive you posted before plays and burns cd's too so you only need another optical if your planning on doing things that require 2 drives at once (like playing a cd and recording on the other at the same time)

If you haven't ordered yet, that monitor doesn't have DVI. Here's one that does:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824014111

$75 off with an ATI card too.

I suggest going with what thefultonhow said for the monitor. It is a good monitor with a DVI connection. The one I suggested doesn't have one and since your getting an ATI card you get 75 bucks off like he said also. Other then that you're all set and post back when you build it and tell us how it is

Only thing I would do is change the monitor from the 920 to the 940. The 940 has DVI input, the 920 doesn't, it only has an analog input. The DVI input will give you much better picture quality over the analog. FWIW.

Call them up or email them and have them take the second one out of the order. Chances are it hasn't been shipped yet, and they may charge a 15% restocking fee if you send it back.

You can use the extra card as a backup if the one you put in is DOA. Without a crossfire chip in your mobo you won't be able to get any use out of 2 ATI cards
