Upgrade CPU Fan?

I want to add a 2nd HD to my Gateway 450 that now only has a 10Gig HD. I will probably add a 40Gig HD. Do I need to also think about a more effective CPU fan?

Thanks,

Thom

No, adding a second hard drive does not require an upgrade of the CPU fan, as they are unrelated, and are housed separately.

Your Gateway computer should have the proper connectors (IDE and Molex) to connect the drive. Reply back if you have any problems.

The only reason you'd want to replace your CPU fan is to achieve a better temperature, or if there is something wrong with it in the first place.

Newegg.com still has a few 40gig ATA drives but you probably won't find any at your local big box store.

I see a 40gig HD at Newegg with an 8k cache and another one with a 2k cache. They are about the same price. Is the 8k preferable to the 2k?

Thanks

Yes, an 8MB cache gives a slight boost over a 2MB.

Thanks folks. I am sure to have a few questions when I go to install the HD. I love this forum!

The Gateway 450 does not support hard drives larger than 32gb. You will need a PCI controller card to install one, and it will knock out the primary motherboard IDE channel when you install it, you have to disable it in the bios. You will have to install both drives on the card and reinstall Windows. The optical drives will have to be on the secondary IDE channel on the motherboard.
