Is this a power source problem

This morning i went downstairs to get on my computer to play some counter strike. I look at my comp and notice that it was off . That was strange because i remember that i had kept it on. I reach down to press the power button and my computer lights up for a second and then shuts off. Is this a power source problem or does it pertain to some other part. This was the first computer i have ever built

most likely it is your psu. What kind of psu was it and how long have you had that computer?

Do the lights come on then go off immediately? Or do you hear any activity at all...? Fans starting up etc etc?

Does sound like a power issue.

What kind of computer is this? Home built or name brand?

What are the complete system specs? List the parts by brand and model including the power supply.

Do you have spare parts that can be swapped in to test with?

Unhappy Got similar syptoms.

I just happen to be troubleshooting a computer that does the same. I hit power switch, light flashes, and that's it. Plus, it doesn't flash every time I press the button; most of the time it just does nothing. The psu fan also kicks on for a second and then just stops the times that the light flickers.

I'll follow this thread for more info.

I replaced psu.

I replaced the psu, and now the computer will post, but it seems that the old psu may have damaged the hard drive which now makes loud noises. I will not post here anymore.

But in fact, the initial problem was indeed the psu.
