Im building my first computer,Everything is plugged in correctly, jumpers have been set,and the PC starts up fine,LEDs go on Fans..etc. But when the computer boots up it always tells me that there is (No Bootable Device--Insert boot disk and press any key) In BIOS my CD-ROM drive is the first in the Drive boot order, and BIOS recognizes my CD-Rom drive and all my other devices, but everytime I reboot with my Windows XP Professional disk in the Disk Drive it never enters the setup,I really would appreciate some help on this issue from anyone,Thanks..

could be your rom drive too but switch the cable with a different one if you have one. If not switch the rom with another one if you have one.

I Tried both of your suggestions but I still get the same message,I dont think it has anything to do with a bad drive or cable since my drives are all brand new and they all are detected in the BIOS menu. Any other ideas?

If you tried both then it's not what I said but just because it's new doesn't mean it will work. You have about a 95% chance of getting a good component. BIOS can also detect a drive even if the drive is bad

Yeah,I know what you mean..just because its new doesn't mean it always works, but I tried a second drive that works on my other computer just fine so I dont think that's the problem.

I don't have any other ideas but someone will soon. The only other thing I can think of is that your new mobo is bad. Which I hope it's not for your sake.

Do you get to the point where it says enter any key to continue?
Is this a original xp cd or a copy? (maybe not made bootable) may wanna check on another pc if you have one. |

The Message says No Bootable Device--Insert boot disk and press any key,so I guess it tells me to enter any key to continue if thats what you mean, but when I do it just shows the same message over and over, and yes my Windows XP disk is an Original.

Had this problem last week on a Intel 945 PVS build Could not even enter the Bios removing the battery would not reset the Bios. Had to use the Bios jumper on the mobo to enter the Bios configuration menu (think that was what it was called) then configured the Bios & exit the Bios.a Menu then came up telling me to turn the PC off & the put the jumper to original position PC then booted fine.

I'm able to enter my BIOS menu, and I have tried resetting the jumpers and then I get an extra menu in BIOS called Maintenance but I still cannot find anything in BIOS to change that will allow me to boot my Windows XP disk. My motherboard is an Intel D955Xbk

Just a wild guess. Do you have a floppy drive connected? If not, set the bios so the floppy is Disabled and not even showing in the boot order. Recheck your boot order, make sure the CD drive is before the hard drive, Exit and Save changes when you exit the bios. Recheck your CD drive jumpering too. If you are using a 40 wire cable (which is fine for optical drives) jumper it to Master and connect to the end of the cable. If using an 80 wire ide cable, jumper the CD drive to Cable Select (CS).
