Got it Built, but a problem

Ok, so I built the computer listed here: http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=159074

Everything is going great so far, the temp's are in range and it's running like a dream. Execpt last night for no reason I can find out it just shut's off. Then I get this beeping from inside. ONe long beep followed by a short beep. I left it off last night and now it seems to be working fine again, but I would like to see what the problem is.

Any help would be great.

go into computer management and see what the error was then post it in here. Did your mobo manual come with descriptions of beep codes?

Did you open up the case and check if everything is securly plugged into the motherboard?

I'd also make sure the heatsink is installed correctly and that the pins are really locked down all the way. The LGA775 heatsink isn't the easiest to install.

I did have some problems with it, but everything seems to be working out Ok with it now. It's locked down, I just didn't know how hard I could really push down on them without breaking anything.

You should hear a faint "click" when the retention bar is secured into the hole. All the pin holes should look the same in height from the back of the motherboard.

Ok, far has I can tell the heat sink is installed correctly. Everything is seated firmly and there's no give to any of the little fastners. I can't tell if they all come out the same on the other side because that world invovle taking my motherboard out again.

I have been trying to watch the temps using the software that came with my motherboard ( UGuru) and the cpu never get's hotter then 30c and that was when playing F.E.A.R.

However it did shutdown again and give me the long beep and short beep repeating. My motherboard didn't come with anything to decieper that and the code board it does give doesn't say anything usefull, just ATX Power ready.

Found the beep code I was taking about, 6.) 1 long - 1 short(Beep) DRAM ERROR. What does that mean?

Looks like your ram might be bad. Try each stick individually to see if the problem happens with a certain stick.

or use the program memtest 86+. Here's a link. Copy an image of the file to a disc and reboot with the disc you copied the image to. put one RAM stick in your board at a time and run the test. You should eventually get to the stick that is bad(if it's bad RAM)

I just upped my ram to 1 gig. I had a problem with mine too and found that for some reason, it wouldn't run with both sticks till I moved the new one to the #1 slot and the older one to the #2 slot. (I have only 3 slots). If you're using two sticks try changing them around like that. Both of mine checked good with memtest.

Yep, thanks. I found my problem was for some reason I had to move my ram sticks over. Running Duel Channel and I had them into the second slots and not the first slots. Everythign seems to be working fine now.
