few questions

Hi,

Im thinking about getting a new comp built by my cousin around about christmas time.

i have a couple of questions and would appreciate some feedback here.

* Dual Core

Should i go Dual core or not because most new comps ive seen in the shops are now dual core.
Only ive heard that some games dont play all that well on dual core processors or not even play at all.

* SLI or not?

I also heard that some high end single graphic cards can out perform the low end SLI cards?

*Windows xp pro X64 edition or not?

What graphics card manufacturer should i go for?

Nvidia or ATI?

I would probably go Nvidia.

What brand of ram?
Muskin , Kingston,Corsair ,Etc...?

Good case recomendation?

Anyone recomend me a good case with side window,Good cooling vents and lots of room inside the case?

Realy i want the computer to be built for gaming so graphics & memory is a big issue here.
I dont have a set price limit as yet though so i dont know how much im gonna have to spend (Not good i know but i dont know how much )I should say around £800 is this enough for a gaming rig?

Thanks,Lol i know theres a lot of questions there but you will help me.

Yes, I would go with dual core. Games will run fine and dandy on a dual core.

Yes, a single high end card will outpeform two low end cards. Avoid SLI if you want keep the price within reason.

I would go with Win XP Home. Unless you need specific features of XP Pro (avoid x64 as driver support is not good).

Either nVidia or ATi will work.

Corsair for RAM.

Antec, Thermaltake, Lian-li, Cooler Master are few good case companies.

Let's not worry about specifics now as parts will change quite drastically between now and the end of the year.

Thanks for replying bro,

When it gets near christmas (Time goes by fast! ) i will ask in here again about possible system i could build and hopefully you guys can recomend me what stuffs hot and not.

Do you honestly think i could build a gaming rig for £800 which is just over $1,456 in Us dollars.

I wont be needing any monitors,Keyboards,Mouse.
Just want the system.

You're probably thinking of 64-bit Windows. Single core optimized games run fine on dual core CPU's. They'll just utilise one core, simple as that

Yes, definitely. I could put one together for $1000 USD.

You've got plenty of time to shop around for that perfect case Cases aren't going to change too quick.

Don't forget that components cost quite a bit more in the UK than the US, in my experience by around a third more. That said, I think you can put together a good gaming system for £800. The system in my signature, although by no means top of the line, cost around £600 18 months ago.
