HD and MOBO
im planning on building a new computer, but i am confused about how to pick a harddrive that is compatible with my mobo. first off, if a board says it has "2x ATA100" does that mean it will work with a harddrive with an IDE Ultra ATA100 interface? and what is all this raid stuff, raid 0/1/0+1? i just need some guidance here...

If your board supports SATA, get a SATA hard drive. RAID is a way to use multiple hard drives for various purposes. What mobo are you looking at?

You will never notice the speed difference between SATA I and SATA II.

will a harddrive that has an interface of sata 3gb/s just plug right into a board with a 1.5gb/s interface?

Yes it will, it will just transfer data at the maximum speed of 1.5 GB/s. However, it's not likely that that speed will ever be reached, which is why both SATA I and SATA II are more or less the same.
