stupid noobie question

Hey,
This is probably an easy question to answer. I'm looking at hard drives at newegg and most of them are OEM. Do they come with the cables you need or do I need to buy those separate? If yes, how do I know what cables I need?
Thanks,
Frasher

OEM hard drives are just the drives themselves, no cables. But if you are building a system, your motherboard will come with cables. If you need to buy cables, you could go with the Retail drive, or buy either an ATA133 IDE cable or a SATA cable, depending on the drive you buy. I would recommend SATA.

No OEM hard drive do not come with the hard drive cables but the Retail hard drives from newegg come with the hard drive cable. You would need to buy the cables and if you scroll down to the specs for the hard drive on newegg it will say interface and it will say ide or SATA depending on which one you are looking at then you would have to buy either and IDE cable or SATA cable depending on if you want an IDE or SATA drive.

Okay, so since I bought a Asus A8n5x mobo, that would have the cables I need for the hard dirve? Anything else that is included in retail that isn't in OEM that I'm not aware of?
Thanks guys,
Frasher

A setup disk - which you don't need. A bag of mounting screws, which you don't need, most cases come with those - or have screwless mounting rails. A small instruction pamphlet.
