In a month or two, Intel's Conroe will be out. He might want to consider waiting until and building with that. Also, does he have a preference between AMD/INTEL?

I would have your friend go over to Newegg and first look through the case selection to find something he likes. Good cases will be in the $100 and up range.

Preliminary benchmarks show that Conroe is better for gaming than AMD - BUT, the tests were set up by Intel, so we can't really say for sure if they haven't tweaked things to exagerrate the results. If he's not buying for a month or two, I'd wait until it is released and the benchmarks come out from sources that are known not to be biased. Only then, can we say for sure it's performance. Then, make a decision over AMD or Intel.
In the meantime, I agree with flanzig's suggestion. I always like to read the reviews and whatnot on cases before making a decision. Also, if he needs a monitor, keyboard, or anything, start picking those ahead of time. The monitor will work regardless of the CPU. |

I have found that XOXIDE.COM has a better selection of cases and quite often better prices so you may want to check them out as well
