Motherboard has power, computer wont turn on

I have a question i am rebuilding a gateway computer my uncle gave to me. He took it to the geek squad at best buy and they told him the motherboard was bad, so i purchased a new motherboard, installed it and still nothing. The motherboard does get power, because the light on the board will turn on, however, when i hit the power switch nothing happens. I have tried the small screwdriver thing, but the connection has nine prongs, which two do i try and short, or am i trying to short the wrong area? Help please.

What specific model gateway is it?
Could be one of the models with proprietary wire assignments from the power supply.

Have you determined if (perhaps) you have a faulty power switch?

What motherboard did you buy and do you have a manual to go with it?
