new low budget comp for parents; pls check 4 me

ello, my parents ask that I build them a new computer. they dont need anything fancy since all they ever do is check email, browse the web and do some stuff in MS office. Also, they have alot of digital pics that they print and keep. I want to keep the price under $500 MAX and maybe a little lower if possible.

they have a CRT from the old computer they can use with the new one, and also have a PS2 mouse/kb they can reuse. I also have a 350 GB IDE drive a can give to them if I cant find one that is not too expensive.

here is what I have from newegg.com. Let me know if it all looks ok and what I need to change.

* board & processor is this OK since it says "mobile" processor? I want it for a destop. Why does it say a "mobile processor") http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813135005 105.99
* memory http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820146532 47.99
* dvd burner http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827106017 34.99
* dvd rom http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827101131 19.99
* case http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811103004 33.99
* PSU http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817704008 18.99

TOTAL with shipping 443.47

Ok well any special reason you need a dvd rom as well as a dvd burner? It can play dvd's too...

Ok the psu, stick with something more stable, and more reliable. Is a few bucks truely worth the cost of your whole computer? Get a decent psu and you wont regret it. If your on the cheap sparkle/fsp usually have great psu's in that price range. Something like this would suit much much better. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817103012

Save a few bucks on memory and spend it on psu. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231078

Otherwise it looks fine, even though I dont trust sis or via chipsets, I understand your on a budget so itll be fine. Mobile shouldnt be a problem.

Because it has a mobile CPU. Buy the CPU and board seperately. And spend a few more bucks on the motherboard. ECS is at the bottom of the quality tier. Find an ASUS board with onboard video.

As Mr. Ferrari said, spend a bit more on the PSU. You want your parents to have stable computer don't you?

ok, so I'll go with the PSU that was suggested and also the RAM. I was also thinking of an ASUS board since that is what I have in my computer and have never had any problems.

Any suggestions on an ASUS board w/ onboard video? Also, I have it set for a AMD with the ECS board. Can you suggest a good processor to go with an ASUS board. I prefer retail processor with a good factory fan.

Do you think the AMD 2800 is good enough for them or should I go up some on the processor?

THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP!!!

The best socket 939 motherboard with onboard video, in my opinion, is the ASUS A8N-VM. Decent features, plus it has a PCI-E slot if you ever want to upgrade the system's gaming capability.

With Socket 939 AMD, you'll have to choose from the Athlon 64 line. I'd recommend the 3200+, great performance for a great price.

For that kind of use, you can use a socket 754 Sempron to keep the cost down. There are some very decent 754 boards out there with onboard video and an AGP slot that are quite inexpensive. You could also go the Intel/Celeron-D route.

Foxconn has a very nice inexpensive case with a FSP 300 watt ATX 2.0 power supply. This will power any motherboard you would buy with onboard video or even a lower end video card - AGP or PCI-E. FSP power supplies are high quality.

GLC has a very good point about the socket 754 route. It opens up the cheaper Sempron 64 processors which are great performers for the money. Here's the motherboard I'd recommend

Oh well - that case is no longer carried by Newegg. Figures. This one costs more but is decent quality:
