I have built a PC, and when I switch it on, the monitor doesn't show anything, the light remains orange, not green.
It is NOT a monitor fault, as I have tried it with 2 different monitors as well. Any ideas on how to fix it? I do hear fans going and lights flash and come on so I don't have any idea about this. It seems to be a common problem amongst people.

Our number one suggested starting place when having problems with a new build. We even made it a sticky at the top of the BYOPC forums.

First, double check and make sure everything is installed correctly (memory, processor, power cables, etc.). Be sure any jumpers on the motherboard are set accordingly to your hardware and the manufactuer's manual.
If your motherboard has onboard video but you are not using it and installed a video card via the agp or pci express slot, sometimes you will need to disable the onboard video in the CMOS setup. Remove the video card, boot up the system with onboard video, go into CMOS and disable onboard video and save the settings, shut down and install the standalone video adapter and your all set. Hopefully, bad hardware is not the cause of your problem and doing what Panama Red suggested will help you find the culprit. Last edited by minsonngo; 07-13-2006 at 06:24 PM. |

I sorted the problem; the computer doesn't support double-sided memory, so I swapped the 1 1GB one to 2 512MB ones.
Thanks. |
