Question about audio on AMD build
This is my second build...first with an AMD motherboard. Have the Asus AN8-E and the Antec Sonata II. I am kinda lost with the audio connections.
Front Panel audio/mic: With the Antec there is a heavy white cable with a 10 pin connection (one pin covered) and also 7 single connectors coming out of the cable. I assume you have your choice based on your motherboard. I don't see where the connection is made on the motherboard. The manual says it is right behing the rear panel connector and there is a connection but there are two blue covers over four of the pins. Do I take these off and plug the 10 pin connector on to it? DVD Audio: The manual to my motherboard has nothing about audio hook-up for the DVD player. I have the NEC ND3550A. I'm using an online (DIY 939) guide which says connect the audio cable from the DVD to motherboard. My NEC DVD burner was OEM. I thought everything would come with my motherboard but I can't seem to find the audio connection cable. Not sure what it looks like. Finally, there is a cable with one black and one red wire coming from my front panel in the case. It has a four pin male connector. From there goes four more wires with a 4 pin female connector. What is this for? Thanks for any help Last edited by paJAMbla; 07-13-2006 at 01:09 PM. |

If you running Windows XP, you don't need to connect the DVD Drive audio cable to the motherboard - the sound is transfered through the IDE cables.

Yes, you do need to remove those blue covers to get to the audio connections. I'm not sure if the 10pin connector will work since I have not used a Sonata. But I did find this on Antec's site for how to hook up the 7pins, which will certainly work once they are plugged in correctly.
Instructions for non-standard audio connections. 1. Locate the internal audio connectors from your motherboard or sound card. 2. Consult your motherboard or sound card manual for the pin-out positions. 3. Microphone Power Pin: Connect the MIC connector to this pin. 4. Microphone Input Pin: Connect the MIC-BIAS connector to this pin. 5. Ground Pin: Connect the AUD GND connector to this pin. 6. Front Right Speaker Out Pin: Connect the FPOUT-R connector to this pin. 7. Front Left Speaker Out Pin: Connect the FPOUT-L connector to this pin. 8. Rear Right Speaker Out Pin: Connect the RET-R connector to this pin. 9. Rear Left Speaker Out Pin: Connect RET-L connector to this pin. Note: Your motherboard may not support rear speakers output. In this case you do not need to connect RET-R and RET-L. Hope that helps.
