Media Player won't recognize DVD

I have my new build up and running. I burned a CD to check the NEC ND3550A DVD and that went fine. However, when I put in a DVD to play a movie... the Windows Media Player does not recognize that its even in the drive. Any ideas?

Windows Media Player cannot play DVD's unless you have video codecs installed. You have to install some kind of DVD playing software to install these codecs - such as Power DVD or Win DVD.

This is why I buy Lite-On DVD burners instead of NEC's - they come with Nero and Power DVD.

OR DOWNLOAD A NEW PLAYER Just like glc Window Media Player cannot play DVD or VCD if it didnt have the right codec installed. Install a new player I think some DVD Drive Include a CD that have DVD player software specially DVD-Writers, or if u dont have one Download VLC player "one of the best" www.videolan.com VLC can play ALMOST all media files so u dont have to worry ONLY 80% LOL...... Its not perfect

Or just check the CD bundled with your graphics card, mainboard, etc.

DVD playback software is bundled with many hardware nowadays.

There are free MPEG-2 filters out there, one of them is enough for Media Player to play back MPEG-2 (and thus, DVD).
Nothing special needed for VCD, though. MPEG-1 is included in Windows by default.
