Hi,
I have decided not to go for a $2000 PC but for a less than $1000 PC, because i have other things to do with my money than build a powerhouse. anyway here is the specs for you experts, so please tell me if everything will work out. This will be my first build. so please include some tips too. thanks. ASUS M2N-E Socket AM2 NVIDIA nForce 570 Ultra MCP ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131022 $98 AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ Windsor 2000MHz HT Socket AM2 Dual Core Processor Model ADA4200CUBOX - Retail http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103747 $360 Linkworld 431-06 C.2222 Black SECC/SGCC ATX Mid Tower Computer Case 500W Power Supply - Retail http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811164061 $46 GIGABYTE GH-PCU22-VG 2 Ball Blue LED Light CPU Cooling Fan/Heatsink - Retail http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835128003 $28 CORSAIR ValueSelect 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) Unbuffered System Memory Model VS1G667D2 - Retail http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145098 $150 eVGA 256-P2-N553-AX Geforce 7600GT 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card - Retail http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130283 $140 TOTAL: $850 -I wont be needing an SATA HD. alredy have one -I am espceailly worried about that CPU heatsink/fan. i dont know if it will work with AM2 -dont need card, moniter, also i will be busting my old PC so no need to WIN XP. -The cd and DVD drives that worked in a 5 yr olf PC will work with that mother? no change in tech there? WORK? thanks ![]() btw: where can i find some nylon wraping for power cables to make it look COOL! Last edited by KUNFUCHOPSTICKS; 07-15-2006 at 10:40 AM. |

without knowing who makes the power supply in that case, i don't think you can trust it.
if you are going to buy a heatsink/fan, don't buy a retail CPU as it comes with one already. that being said, why not just use the one that comes with it? unless you are overclocking, you will be fine don't know what kind of computer you had before, but if its a dell/hp/compaq/etc your XP disc will not work with it. cd and dvd drives will be fine for cable wraps, check out www.frozencpu.com but whats the point, there isn't a window in the case you picked out? craig

thanks for the speedy reply.
i have Dell 8100 which is exactly 5 years old. they were still giveing out OS reinstall discs when i bought it in 2001, i think its should work. if not, im gonna take this chance and get a WIN XP PRO 64 bit edtiion- IS that stable? reconmendated? to Ealry? i think i will OC it so im gonna get a big heasink/fan. Will that work? you are right about the cable wraps thing. but i just want nice air flow and organization. im also gonna pick up round IDE cables- are those ok to USe? thanks |

You cannot use a Dell reinstall disk. It's keyed to a Dell bios.
Is that ram on the QVL? If you are going to be overclocking an AM2, you need DDR2-800 or faster low latency ram, 667 even holds an AM2 back at stock speeds. You should not plan on overclocking a budget machine. You need premium components, all the way from motherboard and ram to power supply and cooling. That power supply isn't going to be suitable for a stock clocked machine with onboard video, much less an overclocked machine with a video card. Just a proper power supply is $100, never mind the case. |

I would invest my money in a better power supply. Why spend money on really good parts when your just going to skimp on the PSU? You said "I'll see when it breaks." Well, when it breaks, it could kill you other expensive components (cpu, mobo, etc.) along the way.
