new build optical drive recommendations
Hello, just about have all the parts together for my first kick at building....need a couple of pointers when it comes to the CD/DVD drive.....I understand from a lot of recommendations on this board that Lite-On and NEC are both good brand choices but is there a specific type I should be looking for? (format?) Also, am I just as well getting a DVD reader as it will read CD's as well? Was thinking of a DVD burner but seems I read somewhere that some games will not load or play properly from a RW drive as opposed to just a plain old "read" drive. Can do without the "burning" capability at the moment and add that later if this is the case!! Any advice greatly appreciated... Al

Yes, a DVD-ROM will also read CDs. Just get any Lite-On or NEC drive, whatever you prefer. I personally get one of each: one DVD-ROM and one DVD burner. Getting both really isn't that much more expensive.

I think you mean a DVD-ROM will read CDs, not burn them.
There's nothing wrong with going with what you described...as Dr. Gonzo said it's not cost that much more.
