I'm not the expert, but i'll tell you what everyone else will say...
1. go with a lite-on optical drive 2. You need 800 Mhz ram with an AM2 setup to optimize preformance. Corsair XMS2 seems to be working well for most with the M2N-E. Thats my 2 cents. |

What other 800Mhz rams are there?
Also, if I were to keep that ram, what can I change my mother board to? Last edited by SquishyPoo; 07-17-2006 at 12:16 PM. |

You need RAM that is on the ASUS QVL for that board.
512Mb modules are: Kingston: KVR800D2N5/512, 2x512 kit KVR800D2N5K21G Infineon: HYS64T64020HU-25F-A Micron: MT8HTF6464AY-80ED4 And a couple of others that only work in certain configurations. AM2 is very picky about RAM, stick with what is on the list.

You'd be much better off changing the RAM to match what is qualified for the motherboard. ASUS is probably the best manufacturer for an AMD system, and by changing to another brand, you'd be sacrificing quality.
If you have problems getting the qualified RAM, you might consider building a socket 939 system. MUCH less picky about memory than the AM2 socket, and proven reliable technology. FK

AM2 is new. So if you want upgradeability, go with AM2.

I agree with joshrogoff. But the AM2 has been having problems so far and it is very picky with memory. So my suggestion would be to hold off until it hits mainstream and all the bugs are fixed.
Socket 939 should be around for a pretty long time though so if you want to build soon, go with that. |

The second one just has tighter timings, and most likely better ic's. Wont really see a perf. boost other then in benchmarks. Get whichever one fits the wallet better

Also, should I get a new power supply or is the one in the case good enough?

The one with the Sonata will be ok for everything but SLI and/or overclocked setups.
