Wont do anything
I think i messed up!
I got a computer i built a couple years ago and i needed to get it running again, I got it working fresh windows install. Real quick my sys specs, antec case w/350watt ps, amd semphron 2400+, 2 sticks of 128 pc2700 333mhz kingston ram, 80 gig (r.i.p., long story) ASUS A7N8X-X motherboard. Anyways, i was looking though the bios. well i saw my ram clock was and always have been set to 166mhz, well i changed it to 333, i restarted it and it didnt agree so i canged it, messed with crap for a while and got it back to origional and got it working perfect, so i started over again, and went from 166mhz up 2mhz to around 168 or so, saved and restarted, and NOTHING. Black screen for a couple seconds then the monitor feed turns off. I restarted so many times and nothing, every couple times it does a long beeeep and than two little blips really fast after the main one. Im at a loss, the bios doesnt come up or anything. I switched in a different video card just in case. I removed a stick of ram and tried no ram at all and still nothing. CAN somone please help me save this thing???!! Thankyou, chad.

For a specific stick of ram, there can be several different speed quotes all of them meaning the same thing.
DDR 333 is the same as PC 2700, but the ram itself runs at 166MHz. I can't offer a good explanation, but I'm sure one of the pros can. For reference purposes, I have DDR 400 ram, which is also defined as PC3200, but the ram sticks themselves run at 200MHz. In other words, if you reset the ram speeds in the BIOS so that it says "166MHz", the ram will perform stabley again, as you have seen.

Pull out the manual, find the cmos jumper and set it to 'clear', the manual should have full instructions on how to do it, with the computer unplugged.
You may have to pull the cmos battery as well. What this will do is reset the bios to factory defaults so you can start the computer again. There's usually a time period for this and when it's over you reset the jumper for the cmos and/or reinstall the battery (follow the order they tell you to). Now set the fsb to 166 and leave it. I'm just praying that your Quote:
DDR is means the ram has a double clock cycle so that 166 becomes 333.

Try resetting the CMOS/BIOS manaully on the motherboard.
Here is a good read on DDR-RAM and how it works: http://www.pcmech.com/show/memory/41/ |
