I had heard problems about the PVR-500 running with Dual Core systems.
Plus heat is an issue in this because its going to be on all the time and always doing more then one thing. It also needs to remain quiet so the fans arent going to push alot of air.

Well since your looking for low heat. Your current choice isnt gonna help. If you want single core with low heat, get a cedarmill. Will be much cooler then any presshot's. And for that you will need a 945p chipset mobo. And for 173 theres the 930 dual core if your interested. Runs cool, and is a powerhouse.

Since the trouble seems to be with the CPU let me ask you something, should I even be going with Intel? Ive always used AMD chips and have no oppinion on Intel chips. I was told that they were much much better at handling multimedia and muti-taksing. Is there any truth to that?

This Ceader Mill seems to be nice at a decent price, plus it uses Hyper Threading, which the mobo has but that prescott does not

BOTH AMD and INTEL are good. Some people just prefer one over the other.

Just a quick note. I would switch the DVD Burner to a LiteOn. Samsung optical's are not the best quality.

And I agree with the others, Intel is fine. No need to switch brands.
