1st Time build, wish me luck.

I am going to start my first pc build tomorrow or the next day. All the parts are due in tomorrow. I already received the processor, just waiting for everything else. I was lucky only one thing on backorder, the optical drive, and I ordered it through a seperate company so it was the only thing on the order. I can use my existing one to do installs as a temp, i guess. As for the specifics of my build........

plus the next several days of frustration, no sleep, countless posts, 2-3 "build your own pc" books, hours of internet research. Anti-static rubber work mat, static wrist guard, a set of smaller "pc tools", two days off work, or at least less than mentally present and accounted for. Am I missing anything?

I will surely replace the cheap PSU with an Antec. I will see what this one looks like and feels like when it arrives.

Let me know what you guys think. Josh, it would be great if you had any pointers for me before I actually start my build.

Thanks all

Darin

Good luck, and I'd get a reliable PSU, like you mentioned, from a company like Antec or Enermax.

Replace the PSU before you do anything - I wouldn't get that bundled PSU within 5 feet of my computer I'd hate to see it die and you and possibly take all or part of your system.

A *quality* 450W would be enough - but a cheapo 450W probably doesn't even put out near that much.

Would this PSU be a good choice from a compatablity and quality standpoint?

SP-500 SmartPower 500 Watt ATX12V v2.0 PSU Power Supply
http://www.compusa.com/products/prod...U_Power_Supply

I am not familiar with how to check to see if this has all the connectors and wires that i will need. I can tell one thing, I DON'T think I will need (4) FOUR, count them FOUR 1, 2, 3, 4.....SATA connections. Will anyone need this many??

Thanks for your input.

Yes, that is a proper power supply, but not if you are contemplating adding the second video card, it's not SLI-certified..

You bought that CPU a couple days too soon. It's now $169 at Newegg.

AH, Thanks GLC that is a good point. A second card is on the horizon, I am glad you pointed that out. I have updated my signature to reflect the new parts. Just decided to go ahead and get the correct PSU. This system isn't actually BUILT yet, but it will be soon. Thanks for the help, check back tomorrow, I will be starting the build tomorrow evening, I think. I may have a couple of new questions posted by then, a couple........LOL HAHAHAHA
