usb help

I'm not sure if this is the correct forum.

This is the mother board I have:

http://www.msicomputer.com/product/p...M2-V&class=npc

What does the 8x mean? It related to the speed because that is what I'm interested in finding out.

It says:
1x Floppy Port / 1x Serial Port / 8x USB 2.0 Ports

For example my usb 2.0 cable moves bits at what speed?

Also: I notice on my mother board there are two connections for the front 'usb1 and usb2'. They only have a plug into one of them. Does that mean I have to buy another plug for the otehr one? Only one works so it makes sense. I wonder why they only plug in one for you.

Are you talkin bout the agp 4x/8x or the 8x usb?

I assume usb. That just means how many usb ports are on the mobo.

And if your case doesnt have more then usb cable then it just doesnt. You dont have to go out and buy one, its just the limitation of the case.

usb

It says:
1 AGP 8X/4X; 2 PCI; 8 USB

and
This Barebone System Includes

• 2 Front USB 2.0 Ports

I see the two usb connectors on the motherobard.

I'm pretty sure they support both usb ports or they wouldn't put that in the front of the case?

Maybe there is something missing or something?
Perhaps I should call them.

8x means that there are 8 USB ports on the board total. USB 2 is USB 2, they all run at the same speed from one board to another. The rated speed of USB 2.0 s 480Mbps (Megabits per second), but you have to also keep in mind that that is the top burst speed. It doesn't always run at that speed. Same is true for most PC connections.

As far as the front USB is conserned, you have 4 USB ports on the back of the motherboard and 2 USB headers that ports such as on the front of the case can be plugged into. Each header will run two usable USB ports that you can plug things into. That extra header is free for an add-on bracket or a Card Reader or whatever you want to add. Sadly, it also means that if one of the front USB ports isn't working, you have a malfuctioning part and are ether going to have to do some troubleshooting or live with it

AGP 8X/4X = Your motherboard will support AGP video cards running at "4x" (1.5V, using a 32-bit channel operating at 66 MHz quad pumped to an effective 266 MHz resulting in a maximum data rate of 1066 MB/s) or "8x" (.8v, using a 32-bit channel operating at 66 MHz, strobing eight times per clock, delivering an effective 533 MHz resulting in a maximum data rate of 2133 MB/s).
