No Power for 1 year old build?
I went to start up my computer, made the usually start up noises, then within 3 seconds it just shut off. Now when I try to press my power button nothing happens. No noises what so ever. I tried using a new outlet as well as a new ac power cord to my computer and it still makes no sounds. I can't even hear any clicking. I opened it up and made sure there was the powersrc wire was plugged into the motherboard, and that the wires from my powerbutton were directly connnect to the psu. Everything looked fine yet still no progress. I don't remember if there is supposed to be a light near the RAM on my MB if power is connected, if there is supposed to be one, there isn't. Is this just a bad psu?
This PSU is about a year old...420W ThermalTake Pure Power PSU. Any thoughts? |

It did not start on the table in minimum configuration? What did it do exactly?

UPDATE - NO PROGRESS
So i bought a new power source and still i get nothing. I have everything hooked up, and when I press the power button nothing happens...no clicks at all. I built this computer last August, and I saw a review of my power supply that said it crapped out after a year. So when I bought a new one I was really hoping it would work, but still nothing. Any suggestions? What are the simptoms of a fried motherboard even though I have no idea how i could have fried it?! |

Have you followed glc's recommendations and read the thread that he referenced? If not, you're not going to get much help until you do.

Yes i did i followed the instructions and still no sound when the MB was on the table
EDIT: I went through GLC's thread he gave me 3 times and nothing happened when tried to short it to start. I replaced the PSU, and the sticks of memory, still nothing...what does this mean? No lights come on either on my motherboard for RAM, is my motherboard just fried? Or worse could it be the processor? Last edited by odel0022; 08-04-2006 at 12:45 AM. |

If absolutely nothing happens and you have a known good power supply, it's most likely the motherboard.

Alright, well i think i will buy a new Mobo...i don't have much to choose from because i have a socket 754, i am going to buy another gigabyte board but I am going to get the one with the better reviews that is actually cheaper for 42.99 and I am buying some Artic Silver stuff and a new heatsink/fan
What are the chances that its the processor and not the mobo? |

Chances are pretty low, I would suspect the motherboard before the processor. Besides, usually in most cases, if the CPU is dead and the MOBO is working fine, there will be BIOS beep codes indicating a failed CPU.
