No - onboard will not handle games (at least ones within the last 5 years). It could handle older games and 2d games, but not the latest and greatest shoot em ups.

The list looks good. Blue is right, onboard video is designed for office type applications, not new games.

If you plan to make it a gaming machine by adding a video card later, you may want to buy a larger power supply now to be ready.

The Intel GMA 950 actually is not that bad. It will game, just not with stuff turned up high - and it is fully DX9 compliant.

I am actually considering building almost the exact same setup that you have. I recommend the Antec Sonata II case if you like the looks of it.

My brother wants a clear panel on his case so sonata 2 is out of the question.
What power supply would you reccomend if I was to add a video card later on, keeping in mind i can't spend too much more money??

I think the 450W version of that FSP you have picked out would be a good base for a video card upgrade... I would look around on Newegg and find something you and your brother like...Sonata II is a good choice and a good value, which is why we usually recommend it...

That build should work just fine. I just completed a similar build last week - using the 805. I did (however) use a Vid Card. If you can squeeze out just a few extra clams, add a vid card.
805 works very well. I have ordered 2 more for new builds.
Be sure that the case that you choose can accomodate the very tall CPU fan.

Would you say the 805 can handle games reasonably well?

It was really popular as a overclocker toy due to its low price and high 20x multiplier. But it should work decently for you. If i were in your place I would see if I can save a few extra bucks up for a 930. But you will be perfectly happy with the 805.

The best deal on a PCI-E power supply is the 450w XClio - when it comes back in stock.

ok i just brought a case with a clear panel. kinda looks like this one-
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811144177
I know the PSU will be crap

Now since i live in australia I don't think i can get the fsp group (fortron source) PSU.
I will see if my computer shop has the 450w XClio.

If it doesn't, can you guys reccomend any other PSU?? Thats not too expensive.
I was thinking of the antec smart power 400w?

Also with my SATA hard drive will i need to buy a different cable to connect it to the motherboard??.
What is the gel that comes with the hard drive used for??

Cheers guys

Any of these brands would be great.

Enhance
Tagan
Enermax
Mushkin Enhanced series
OCZ
Pc power and cooling
Seasonic
Silverstone
Zippy/Emacs
Antec
Some of the thermaltakes
Zalman zm (basically a forton green unit)
FSP/Forton/Sparkle
Xclio
CoolerMaster

Any of those would be great.

Gel? All I've ever seen come with a hard drive is a dessicant bag.

If you can find an AOpen power supply, that would be good, those are made by Fortron. I know AOpen is big in Oz.

That's a silica packet - just chuck it. It's supposed to sap up moisture (humidity) to protect the drive.

No, that Thermaltake is ATX 1.3, not 2.0. You really don't have many options under $100AU at Scorpion.

Whats the difference between 1.3 and 2.0? Why do i need 2.0?

And you think 350W would do the trick?

And can i use a normal ide cable to connect the hard drive to the motherboard or do i need one of these?

Your motherboard will come with SATA cables, no need for an extra.

If you plan on adding a high end video card later on, I would go with an even larger power supply. As your build stands now, 350w would work, but I would go with the 400w Antec is glc's link to be safe.

All motherboards with PCI-E need the updated 2.0 spec on power supplies. Anything less then ATX2.0 is not designed for the increased power needs of today's high end systems. Again, the 400w Antec is a good choice.

No, not for $30. It doesn't have dual 12V rails. It's only got one and it's a weak one at that (for a single rail PSU). With PCI-E the demand on the 12V rails is really bumped up, so you really need dual or at least one beefy one.

One of those ones glc linked to would be good. Getting a PSU for cheap as possible is a bad idea...

This would be the cheapest PSU I would look at. 41.50 USD. Sorry to jump right in the middle of the topic, but try looking for this. What you want are dual rails, and around 15 or more amps on each 12 volt rail.

It's either that one or the antec one that GLC suggested -

http://www.scorptec.com.au/product/14892

Could I get away with the cooler master?

I really would try to get that antec. Your 805 isnt exactly a lower power consumer. Infact its pretty heavy drinker compared to the other dual cores. Spend once on the psu but spend it right. Otherwise youll end up paying 4x time amount to replace your components when that psu decides it doesnt want to be nice
anymore .

That Coolermaster IS NOT ATX 2.0. I'm sorry to keep belaboring the point, but you are NOT going to find a cheap PSU that will be safe to use.

If you MUST cheap out, get a P5P800-VM board instead - this is AGP instead of PCI-E, but the onboard graphics on the 865G are a lot less competent than the 945G.
