"top of the line computer build"

I have looked and looked and learned and learned about everything i need, and now i believe I have a good set up. BTW this is my first post, and i hope you guys don't discredit me by being a beginner to this sort of thing. My build limit is around 1500 but I have recently cut some corners and need approval of my system, and heard that this was an excellent site. The build will most likely be around christmas, and I know new parts will come out, but the parts that I have chosen work wonderful and will experience price drops + christmas prices by the time I order. I would like to finalize these things so i do not have to worry about them any longer. thanks

I am planning for this computer to be expanded over a good few years, and plan for this to actually be the last computer I purchase... perhaps second to last. I am an avid gamer and hope to be able to endulge in the greatest graphics and video games, but also do not want to get crossfire (or SLi, though my parts do not support it so it is no worry) unless I really need it for more advanced games, and if that is the case, i would get crossfire in maybe 2-3 years.

I am very open-minded about my case so far and think I will wait til the build to pick one(sites specializing in cases would be great, i have only looked at newegg and tigerdirect). Preferring mid-tower

prices below have had a small amount of money added (purposely) so that I can take other expenses like shipping into consideration.

mobo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131025
ASUS P5W DH DELUXE/WIFI-AP Socket T (LGA 775) Intel 975X ATX Intel Motherboard – Retail $280

CPU: Either one of these intel 2 duo chips CPUs is compatible in that board, but will wait til the ordering time to get whatever is in my budget.

http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/Produc...ductCode=80859 2mb cache 2.13ghz

http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/Produc...ductCode=80860 4mb cache 2.4ghz

RAM: this is the ram I have selected. I am not sure what better prices or companies I should look into, but I believe I am pretty solid in this case. Sorry no link, so please search.
G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM Unbuffered DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit System Memory – Retail $190.00

GPU: I have selected an ASUS EAX1900XT/2DHTV/512 Radeon X1900XT 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 VIVO PCI Express x16 Video Card – Retail $350 for my gpu and have full confidence that it is what I am looking for. But input is always appreciated.

things like the hard drive, cooling fans, dvd/cd burner, mouse, keyboard, speakers, floppy disk, are things I have. I plan for the final build, after everything is set up, to not even have a floppy drive.

I still am missing a power unit and a good case. I am planning on spending bottom dollar for what i NEED in a power unit, and recommendations for a good case would be nice.

I have scrapped a power source from an old hp pavillion and wonder if it will be good enough.
I don't know what to include in here about it so i will just type off the stickers.

HIPRO model: HP-K1603A3 REV: 03
AC INPUT(47-63hz): 100-127V~/ 4A
200-240V~/ 2A <-- i don't know what 2A and 4A is
DC OUTPUT: +5V /16A +12V /4A
+3.3V /9A -12V /0.8A
+5VSB /1.5A

MAX OUTPUT POWER : 157W

i need to know if that PSU is compatible.

any tips of any kind or constructive criticism or parts that I have left out and need to include in here are always needed.

thanks you guys,

No, that power supply with 157W will not be sufficient. I suggest looking into the 400-600W range.

If it's going to be 6 months till you build you really ought to wait to start planning. Parts you pick now won't be valid at the end of the year...there'll be better choices for the money, parts that get discontinued...etc

That PSU is going to be useless for a new build...you'll want something from Antec, FSP, Sparkle - to name a few good brands. Something in the 500-550W range is probably good.

thanks, i know the PSU was horse-crap but i needed to know what i need. i guess I will get something that cranks out 500W. Could you guys link me to a good place to one? Preferrably newegg.com

Also, since you guys posted so ridiculously fast, it wouldn't be much to ask (in my opinion) of you guys to please give my parts a clear once-over, and make sure they are all compatible with another.

other than that... it is going to be a sweet build eh?

Ryan, what would you suggest in the 400-600W range for PSU?

i see in your thread that your case comes with a 400W PSU, if I got a case that came with something similar, would it be good for me?

Antec Truepower II 550 watt.

Spending bottom dollar for a PSU is false economy. Quality PSU's are extremely important when you are working with expen$ive components.

i have looked into that psu and it says nvidia certified... i would prefer it say crossfire certified, or do crossfire capable psu's just not say that. Would that be fine with a crossfire setup in the future?

i am getting it if you can confirm it will work 100%

If you plan on powering 2 1900xt's that psu albiet good quality, will come in very shorthanded. As will alot of psu's in that area.

Powering crossfire with two of those cards have been quite a challenge. As a single x1900xt's power consumtion on full load is almost twice the consumtion of a 7900gt.

The ones I would trust are these:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817341002
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817104015
both of the above are the same powersupply, just different brands. FSP is the source for ocz's psu.
or
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817194004
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817163108
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817151025
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817812001
http://www.pcpowercooling.com/produc...hp?show=S61EPS

Any of those would be great choices. For bang/buck I would personally go with the fsp/ocz 700W units.

i think i have decided on just getting something that is around $70-90 that can reach 500W

those top two are definitely good choices for crossfire, but i can change out a new psu when i get a another card for crossfire.

What powersource would you suggest for my single-GPU setup?

thanks for all of those links btw

I'd go for the Antec TP-II 550 that glc reccomended, it's one of the best value for the $ one's out there - those others look nice but are big $$$.

If your going with a single X1900XT then the antec tp2 550W and Forton Blue Storm 500W would both be great choices.

And, if you want a REALLY beefy psu, and are not going dual card, in that price range. My pick would be this.

Its right up there in quality with enermax silverstone pc power and cooling, zippy..
