Need help with a first ibuild...
Hello, I need your help with a PC I want to build. I wanted to know if these parts would be compatible with each other. Would everything work out right?
I left out Moniter,Keyboard,Mouse and Speakers, because I have all of that already. I'am not looking to spend too much over $1000... I want to be able to play CS:S,HL2. If you guys know any other hardware that is better in value, or preformance(And doesn't cost much more than the default things I have on here) please tell me. Tower Case- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811144001 Psu- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817104934 Opperating System- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16837102062 Mother Board- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813136009 RAM- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145440 Video Card- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102657 Hard Drive- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822144701 CDROM/DVDROM- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827200005 Last edited by -Shade-; 07-31-2006 at 01:47 AM. |

First of all, the powersupply that the case comes with is junk, the powersupply is the heart of your rig, without it nothing runs, and with a crappy one, not only do you risk of it going out and destroying your components, but instability is a issue too. If you want that case, fine, but junk the psu and go with a decent one. If you dont want to spend out extra bucks for a psu, and want a really decent case, I suggest this.http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811129155
Or if you do go with your current case, I suggest this psu, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817104934 or http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817256001 You picked a intel chip, but a amd motherboard (and a overclocking motherboard at that). Make a decision, you want to go intel or amd? If you go intel, I suggest you go with a intel pentium d 805, 915, or 930. Spending 113 for a single core right now is just not smart. With a compatible 945p chipset or above. If you go 915, make sure your current motherboard bios will support it, you can easily go on the manufacturer's site and find out or we can help you out. If you go with a retail chip you wont need a additional heatsink/fan assembly. And even if you went oem, I would never suggest that heatsink as not only would it probally perform less thena retail intel proc, but there are better choices out there for the same price. There is not point in picking that sound card as most modern motherboards come with onboard sound that will be equivalent with that card. I really suggest you go with a dvd burner. As there isnt too much of a price difference and you will get cd and dvd burning capabilities which might come in handy later. I suggest NEC, Lite-on, or plextor as great brands. Make sure you get retail. And is there a reason why your getting a external floppy drive. You do know if you dont want to put on permanetly in your case, you can just remove it and add it as you please by just connecting it to the floppy port onthe motherboard. |

Well, I would rather go AMD instead of Intel. Sorry for the few mistakes I made, I am a newb when it comes to computers. I can manage another $200 for better parts.
I have little to no use for a floppy disk drive. I just saw it was needed to build a computer. Does AMD have a chip that goes with my motherboard? If so, does it come with the Heatsink/fan? One last thing. Does this look like a good dvd burner to you? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827106013 Last edited by -Shade-; 07-31-2006 at 01:44 AM. |

Yes, a Lite-On is a good burner.
I would recommend you don't go Crossfire - or with a DFI motherboard. They are NOT for inexperienced builders. Save 100 bucks and get an Asus A8N5X - and get a X2 3800+ processor - the retail package comes with a HS/F assembly. Save some more money and get XP Home. With what you save, you may be able to get 2 gigs of ram and a stronger video card. |

I paid $1000 for the junk I'am using now. It has no video card 512mb ram pentium4 3.06GHz and a bunch of other useless crap. seriously, I am never buying a computer from a store again. All great execept for the fact you took the am2 version of the x2. You need the socket 939 version. Otherwise, seems like your set.

Floppy drives aren't really a requirement - some say you need it to install some drivers during windows install or troubleshooting, but the truth is you shouldn't need to install drivers beforehand with a modern system (with a few exceptions, but I don't think you'll need it) and you can do troubleshooting from an all in one bootable CD - (Ultimate boot disk). The other thing might be updating BIOS, but with most decent boards (like ASUS) usually have built in utilities and can load off of a USB flash drive)...besides if you do happen to need one, you can always borrow one from another PC.

I wouldn't either. You can do Alt+F2 with ASUS boards and load the updated BIOS file from a USB drive I think. At any rate, you shouldn't be updating BIOS's unless abesolutely necessary. Bottom line - if you end up needing one or really think you need one, they are dirt cheap (<$10).

Buy a floppy and toss it and a cable into a drawer somewhere - just in case. The motherboard should come with a floppy cable.
