choosing a PSU

Difference between 20 pin and 24 pin?

my guess, as an above average intelligence person, is that it is referring to the # of "plugs" into the mobo. Should there be any worries as to getting a good psu for my mobo, i need to recount but I think I have a 24 pin mobo and have good recommendations to psu's, but need to confirm compatibility.

I will post links shortly, thanks

I believe my psu and mobo are compatible. I am working away from home right now but i believe that this is the exact same motherboard that I planned on getting (price is lower than 2 days ago, hopefully it goes down more).

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131028 mobo

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817103931 psu

the PSU says 20+4 pin, so my guess is that it can be used on mobos that need 20 or 24, correct?

simple ye or ne plz

Yup backwards compatible. The new 24 pin design was introduced with atx 2.0 so thats what you should look for.

And if I can make another suggestion. Is there any reason why your paying for a motherboard with a less matureness, compatibility, performance, stability, and features then one which will dwarf it for 20 bucks more?

I suggest you take a look at the asus p5wdh. Btw that crossfire on the 965 is not gonna be full crossfire. If im not mistaken 965 chipsets dont officially support crossfire, meaning that the second pci express port will be 4x, which will really bottleneck your dual card setup. And if your not looking for a dual card setup, and dont have any plans for the extra features that the deluxe offers, I suggest you either look at the normal p5b or even better the gigabyte ds3. The latter being only 150.

well i want a gaming rig, but don't plan on getting crossfire for a long time, and wonder if I will at all. I am getting a x1900xt or x1900xtx. And I think that I am getting the more expensive motherboard that you mentioned. I noticed that the price went down, though it looked just like the other one and I only performed a quick search (also being away from home i wasn't sure exactly).

Could you link me to that gigabyte one?

I plan on getting an intel 2 duo, perhaps the $250 or the $350 one and worry about compatibility (too much) with my new system.

Asus P5WDH
Gigabyte DS3 > Asus P5B

Believe it or not, when the asus p5wdh first came out it was for around 230. And that was for around 1 hour and after it went out of stock newegg restocked it with a nice price gouge of 280. Now its 270. If you dont want to order from the egg, you can easily find it for much less, like 244. Same with all the other conroe supporting motherboards. But with a first build, I would always suggest the egg, easy return policy and customer service. I just dont like how they are price gouging when no one else is. I guess they have to make their money one way or the other too. /rant.

Tell ya what - I'm going to close this thread - you have several others going on this same build - which I now see won't be happening till January?

In this forum, we prefer you keep it to one thread per build.
