Trouble installing programs on new build.

I just finished my first build in the last few days, and everything is running very well except for an issue I am having with program installation from files I download. I get errors like the following:

"The installer you are trying to use is corrupted or incomplete. This could be the result of a damaged disk, a failed download or a virus.

You may want to contact the author of this installer to obtain a new copy."

This happened trying to install two different programs, so I assume it must be a hardware or BIOS problem.

Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe, AMD Athlon X2 4200+, 2x1 gig Corsair Value Select RAM, Evga 7600gt

Thanks.

Sounds like the software your trying to install is buggy. Like rjfvillarsosa said, what programs are they?

There were three. There was Azuerus (bittorrent client), BitLord (another bittorrent) and the third was the Flash Player. I can't imagine it was the software.

Never used the first two programs before so I don't know about them.

Are you trying to install these programs on a fresh copy of Windows?

Is there any active programs that may be blocking your other programs from sucessfully installing maybe?

Do these programs install fine on other systems? If so, then we can rule out the programs itself being faulty. If not, then the programs are in fact buggy.

Fresh copy of Windows, installed 3 days ago on a brand new hard drive. Whether Norton Internet Secuirty and my firewall are on or off, they don't install. I just tries to install iTunes, downloaded a minute ago from the Apple website, and it is saying the install file is corrupt in a similar message.

Is this a fresh out of the package XP disk, or a slipstreamed CD? I would assume a bad Windows install before looking for faulty hardware. Did you do the standard torture tests? Memtest86, Prime95, and the like?

Something else that might be the problem. All the programs you listed deal with the 'net in some way. If you used a true copy of Windows the first thing I'd do is disconnect from the net and rip Norton out by any means nessasary. It has been known to be way over protective even when "off". Though I don't think I've heard of it doing something quite like this. Something else to try anyway.

Is your new copy of Windows fully upto date? there was an update to the Windows installer recently.

It is installing updates now; we'll see if that helps.

Did you download all three on the same day/time?

If all else fails, reformat and reinstall a fresh copy of the OS.

I have a DSL connection, and they were not all downloaded within the same time span. I tried most of them a few times, and there was no change. I guess I will try all of the tests mentioned before, then start from scratch again and reinstall the OS.

Have you downloaded and installed anything else besides these three? just trying to rule out it being a problem with your internet, noise on the line or something corrupting the downloads.

Hmmm... well on my second hard drive, I found an old installation for iTunes and Quicktime. I copied it from the second drive to the drive with my system on it, and it installed cleanly. This is compared to the file I downloaded and got a corruption error from.

Well, I have two LAN ports on my mobo, and they are run with different drivers I believe. I swapped the cable and everything is working fine now. Thanks to everyone for your help, even though this had a stupidly simple solution.

Yeah, usually dual LAN boards have seperate controllers for each LAN port and would require 2 seperate driver installations.

Problems with the onboard Nvidia network controller are quite common.
