PSU & Case fitting
is there any standard for the mounting hole alignments on cases for the PSU? seems like everyone i see is a little different. the current case i have now with my PSU i had to drill a couple new holes for it to fit. the case i'm looking at now i dont even know if i'll be able to because where the holes look like they'd line up from the PSU it looks like open space on the case.
any other options?? thought maybe there'd be some kind of mounting plate that might work or something |

There are only 2 different mounting standards - standard ATX (4 screws) and micro ATX (3 screws). The screw spacings are standardized. Anything different is proprietary.

Usually there is a standard, ATX. You may find problems with the cheaper cases or PSUs though.

awesome thanks! only reason i was concerned is because i put that psu in this case below and i had to drill a couple holes to get them to line up and even then 2 of them were not in holes but kind of just grabbing the edge

ok narrowed down now i think.
whatda think? Coolmax cs-480 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...MP=OTC-yah00TT or Thermaltake Mambo http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811133174 leaning towards the thermaltake but it looks like it only has 2 fan options (front/rear) compared to the 3 (front/rear/side) on the coolmax |

I'll take a Thermaltake over any other cheapo brand. I've got that case and it's pretty decent for the cash. It's not as nice as their $100+ cases, but you get what you pay for.

The only Coolmax cases I've seen are incredibly flimsy. For cheapo cases I usually stick with Enlight, AOpen and Foxconn (Casedge). Then again, I go for function, NOT appearance, I do not like fancy looking cases.

It looks reminicent of some antec cases though. Especially the front panel.

Yup I use a antec lanboy for my 2nd comp, and I would never give anything up for that little case.
And ya I hated that tool less thing, I just unscrewed mine and tucked it in storage, btw, it was the thermaltake armour. But alas I sold it and ended up with a lian li and never looked back .

the PowerUp case i have now (that is being replaced) also had the tooless pci and i didnt like it at all! seemed very cheaply thought out and more of a pain than anything. i'll stick with the old school screws! i just got my 120mm fan for the front of the new case and a 80mm for the side. unfortunately the 80mm did not come with screws so i'll have to go find some that will fit. ahh well no big deal
