Small problem with my first build
Ok now everything is connected, the pc turns on but for some reason it says IDE H.D.D not detected. When i go into the BIOS it says -
Primary IDE master - Liteon DVD burner Secondary IDE slave - Not detected Third Master - Not detected Third Slave - WD160gig (my SATA Hard drive) Shouldn't my hard drive be the primary IDE master instead of the burner? I have never used a SATA har drive before so i don't really know whats going on here?? With my power supply do i plug the SATA power connecter in or the normal one? Have i connected something wrong?? p.s specs pentuim d 805 asus p5ld2-vm 160 gig SATA 1 gig corsair value select Last edited by Anth83; 08-02-2006 at 07:28 PM. |

It is plugged into the SATA 1.
Why can't it recognize the hard drive as the master?? Bios says- Primary IDE master - Liteon DVD burner Secondary IDE slave - Not detected Third Master - Not detected Third Slave - WD160gig (my SATA Hard drive) My IDE is connected from the DVD burner to thhe IDE socket on the motherboard. And the SATA drive is connected from the PSU (antec 400w SP) to the SATA drive (with the SATA power connecter) And from SATA 1 socket on the motherboard to the SATA drive using the SATA cable. It says in my motherboard manual this - Install the windows 2000 service pack 4 or the windows XP service pack 1 or later before using Seriel ATA. How do i install windows if the motherboard can't detect the drive as the Master?? Last edited by Anth83; 08-03-2006 at 12:23 AM. |

Uasually it will say in the bios SATA1, SATA2, etc, and what is connected to it. It sounds like you have them connected correctly. Are you using only the SATA HDD? Or do you also have an IDE HDD connected?

Does it say in the bios SATA1, SATA2, etc, with a space for the device connected to it just like it does for the IDE devices?

Ok now it says the SATA is the third master but it now says the Primary IDE master is not detected. Says as follows -
Primary IDE master -Not detected Secondary IDE slave - Liteon DVD burner Third IDE Master - WD160gig (my SATA Hard drive Third IDE Slave - Not detected How do i make it the Primary IDE master?? Why does it say third master? I don't understand what you mean josh. Just says what i wrote above. It says my SATA is configured as a IDE. Last edited by Anth83; 08-03-2006 at 05:13 AM. |

It will NEVER be primary IDE Master - because it's SATA, not IDE. Put the burner on the primary IDE, let it be detected as primary IDE Master. Let the SATA drive detect wherever it wants to be detected. Boot with a Windows CD that has the correct service pack level, and it should find the drive. If it doesn't, you need to make the SATA driver floppy from the motherboard CD and press F6 when prompted to load the SATA drivers.
