The first of many, hopefully

Alright here goes nothing. I'm open to everything, especially the pointing and laughing. I know I'm probably going to have some mistake's. I would really appreciate any and all input. My biggest fear is something not being compatible. I went through and read all the sticky threads, and I made sure to read pretty much all the reviews for each piece I picked out.

Opticals and everything, meaning Monitor/speakers etc...? If so, that was going to be my next question. I just need a monitor, would you have any reccomended brands?

Opticals, meaning cd/dvd drives.

Looks pretty much just like mine. I got the same hard drive too, but it was faulty. You might want to reconsider, but you shouldnt have any problems with it.

anyway, looks great

I would suggest liteon or nec or plextor as better drives. Make sure you get the retail versions.

I have a asus cdrw and although being quiet its been having a few issues.

if you get that optical drive make sure you read the reviews and know that you are getting just the product, and must provide cables/screws yourself. The reviews tell what type of cable you need. It is a pretty good product though.

The motherboard will come with the cables you need already. And most of the drives (even some OEM ones) and case will come with all the screws necessary.

Ok so I got it and put it together. I went to start it up... nothing. Well the fan on the power supply, Graphics card and the CPU heatsink fan start up for maybe a second. It then stops. I tried what they said in another thread, about taking out the Mobo and just hooking up the graphics, ram, and cpu. This still does the same thing. I hope someone know's what's going on. I'm at a loss.

Do you have the processor installed correctly with the heatsink/fan snapped in securely?

Try reseating the memory and video card too.

Are your system specs the same components you have listed in your FIRST post?

Yes the processor is installed correctly, they had little golden arrowheads that you align. The heatsink/fan is snapped on tight.

I tried taking out the memory and switching them around. I also tried using just one. I took out the graphics card and put it back in.

Still the same

Yes my system specs are the same, that's why I figured I'd put it in here.

The memory you have is not on ASUS QVL list, but I have heard Corsair works fine with AM2 though so I don't think incompatibility is an issue.

It sounds like an installation problem to me though, double check everything and make sure everything is jumpered and setup correctly.

If not, try another PSU and then another motherboard and see if that does resolve your problem.

I tried the PSU that came with the case. I had read they are crappy, but thought I would just try it. It didn't help. I wish I could try a different motherboard but I have none. The one in my Dell Dimension 4550 is different. I don't think it can take any parts that I got for the new one.

I have power plugged into the motherboard. The green led is on. I have the cpu in and the socket lever is down, the heatsink/fan is snapped in and the retention bracket is snapped down. I have the heatsink/fan power connected. The ram is snapped in and the graphics card is secure.

Did I miss anything?? This is my first time building a computer, but I did read the How to on the main site. I have also gone through the stickies on the forum here.

Thanks for sticking in there with me.

i havent used a am2 board yet and im not sure if it has this, 939 does, but there is a 4 pin cable that goes in next to the proccesor that some people forget on their first build. (me being one of them!!) it sounds like you did your homework so i doubt this is it but just checking. btw... nice build

Could the fact that the memory isn't on the QVL be the problem?
