Amd Gaming Build

Hi guys, I choose to build a computer rather than take the easy route and buy a laptop. The slower speeds doesn't please me. I plan to use this computer for watching movies and playing games. Will performance be better if I get a AM2 build with DDR2 800 instead of going for the socket 939 with regular DDR? Which 19 inch monitor is best for $200? The budget is preferably under $1100 with monitor.

Case:
Antec LifeStyle SONATA II

CPU:
Athlon X2 4200+ Manchester

Motherboard:
Asus A8n5x

Ram:
CORSAIR XMS 1GB (2 x 512MB)

Video Card:
eVGA 7600GT

Hard Drive:
Western Digital 250gb 7200RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s

DVD:
LITE-ON 6X DVD±R DVD Burner W/ LightScribe and 5X DVD-RAM Write Black

Monitor:
ViewSonic 19" 8ms LCD Monitor - Retail

The price for this build is $1000 right now.

That viewsonic is pretty good.
The SAMSUNG 930B is another good one in that range.
Throw a copy of Microsoft Windows XP Home With SP2 - OEM on the list and you will be set for under $1100.
Download the motherboard manual and check if you need a floppy drive during setup. If not they are handy for diagnostics etc..

You could get some Value Select RAM for a few bucks less. You won't notice the difference.

Thanks for the replies. I still trying to figure out if an AM2 build is better in performance wise than a 939.

As of now, there isn't a big difference.

AM2 is still buggy and most people suggest you wait unti the technology matures more.

Socket 939 is great, it still will be around for some time.

No, for an AM2 to even *equal* 939 performance you have to use DDR2-800 ram.
