System Burn-in

For those of you that have built your own computers do you recommend doing a system burn-in? If so what programs do you use?

I don't do a sysem burn in. The only thing I check is the CPU temperature under full load, to see whether it stays within acceptable limits - and if you installed the heatsink correctly then it will.

For that, I use prime 95, or the Folding @ Home client for a while.

I'm with Freakitchen; I don't do a burn in. I'll check systems temps and voltages after everything is loaded and running.

prime 95 is a cpu stressing program, kinda like cpuburn. It will apply a torture test in which I just makes the cpu calculate reiterations again and again, often used to check load temperatures. But what reallly made it famous was its ability to check cpu stability after overclocking. General rule is to run this for 24hr with inplace fft's and if it doesnt come up with any hours then your overclock is stable.

Folding@home seems pretty obvious. Check the site to learn more. http://folding.stanford.edu/

Good programs to use to monitor temperatures are Speedfan(it will log your min, max, avg.), everest home edition (to find out what each temperature corrisponds to in speedfan), Rivatuner (to log temperature of video cards), Ati tool (specially made for ati cards).

I sometimes do a burnin - if I'm suspicious about something. I usually just run memtest86+ to do it.

The Ultimate Boot CD has some good burn-in tools if you are interested.

At work we typically use SiSoft Sandra. benchmarks virtually all system components.
