Intel Boot Agent
I just completed my build, and only one glitch that I have come across.
The Intel Boot Agent keeps looking for the network and then giving me the PXE E61 Error message (Media faiure--check cable). I know this is because the rig isn't hooked up to a network. It skips over it and boots from the HDD, but it does hang the boot up, to my annoyance. Is there a quick and dirty way to get rid of this? Do I just need to change the boot order? Right now I have it booting off the HDD first, then the optical, LAN last. Also, I am building this for a friend, who will likely connect it to a wireless USB router instead of the onboard LAN. Will the boot agent glitch out in that circumstance? I would like to just disable the boot agent, but am unsure how to do this (Intel docs very sketchy on this) Any help would save me a lot of time. |

In the bios make sure the hard drive is set as the primary boot device.

Do you have the OS installed? I usually set the optical and the first boot device then the HDD. But that is simply my preference.
If the message still continues to reappear maybe disabling the option to boot from the network will help. |

It already is. It still waits for the network. I am at work now so I will have to wait to fool with it. Does anybody know offhand if this function can be disabled in the BIOS? (generally--I know it depends on the BIOS) Didn't see it, but that doesn't mean it isn't there somewhere. XP is installed and loads after it waits for the network, and gives the error message. It's not really a big deal to me, but the person I'm building it for will think something's wrong. BTW, I have to share everyone's enthusiasm for X-Fi, it's pretty super compared to the Audigy, IMO. |

There should be an option in the BIOS/CMOS setup to remove that boot option or at least replace with another choice. It will usually be on the same screen as the boot option screen.
What is the brand and model is the motherboard? |

Have you tried consulting your motherboard manual and reading up on the BIOS/CMOS setup section.

FYI, problem solved last night by changing a BIOS setting. I was unaware the problem had to do with the LAN adapter until yesterday.
Thanks for all your help. |
