Quad sli is interesting, Although ive read that 2 7900gtx's will out perform 2 7950Gx2's. Dont remember if it was in a magazine or online. Ive been reading up on so many things about computer components lately ive lost track.

Edit: I just remembered that at Really high resolutions the 7950's will out perform almost everything. I think the reso was native to a 30'inch screen. Someone please correct me if im wrong.

That would be one heck of a mistake on the editor/author's part. No way will 2 7900Gtx. outperform a dual gx2. More like 1 7950gx2 will outperform 2 7900gt's and will probally be equivalent to one 7950gx2, might very slightly beat it Im not sure on that. But a single 7950gx2 takes less power, runs way cooler, and takes only one slot when compared to 2 7900GT's.

Dual 7950GX2 makes sli/crossfire look cheap.

Edit: Actually your right on the 7900gtx versus gx2 part.

I read an article that showed right now quad SLI with 7950GX's really sucks. In some cases hurts performance (wow, big surprise).

http://www.tomshardware.com/2006/08/...hed/page4.html

Yeah it looks like unless you are using an ultra extreme resolution (2560x1600) it actually hurts performance compared to a single card (not that either's performance isn't good).

EDIT: Ferrari - take a look at the link I posted, it does show 7950GX2's worse than dual 7900GTX's, except at ultra high resolutions then it pulls ahead. Again, not that the worsened scores are unplayable.

And, if you can afford a huge screen, I suppose you can afford 2 of those suckers anyways.

Perhaps immature drivers? That is very suprising, with so much power, handling at 10x7 and 12x10 resolutions must make the cards fall asleep. lol.

Thanks for the correction.

Most likely. I would'nt be surprised if future release boost the peform a bit. I woulda thought it would outpeform 7900GTX's too, but I guess since the "plain ol" dual SLI is more mature right now.

One of the cool things ive read up on the 7950 is that you can force HDR + AA in the driver settings.

Read this on a review "qoute"

But to all you ATI fans out there bragging about HDR and AA together... I state again, this card does infact handle both by forcing in the driver config. It absolutely does work! Forget bloom in Oblivion, use HDR and force the AA in the Nvida control panel... unlock your advance settings with Coolbits set to 1A for advanced 3d settings and overclocking applets. Set your view at the top of the Nvidia control to advanced as well, then tweak away. Hope that helps!

End qoute"

Ill do some more searching and see if i can find any review sites that state this as well.

I just realized why, bottlenecking of the cpu+immature drivers & chipset=low bandwith=bottlnecked performance.

I agree with bottlenecking of CPU - but why it would make performance *worse*. Although, like I said, it doesn't make any difference cause regardless the FPS are well over 60fps - which is more than you'll ever need.

Does explain why lower res performance is less, and it does make sense.
