help with new PC

i just built a new pc, its the first one i have ever built, when i push the power button, it comes on for half a second then goes off. what can cause this to happen? how can i fix it?

Check that the processor heatsink/fan unit is on right and that all the cards and wires are securely seated.
Check that the motherboard doesn't have any extra standoffs under it.
Post a list of all the parts you used with links if possible.
Especially motherboard, CPU, RAM, video card if used and power supply.

Make sure ALL of the power connections to the mother board(a 24 pin AND 4 pin plug) and if the video card requires an aux power connection.

that was it!! i forgot the 4 pin connector! as soon as it didnt work i knew it would be something that would make me feel like an idiot. ill use this site for all problems that may come up.

I was once watching one of those TV shows with the techies and they were racing to see who could throw a system together the fastest. One pair lost because their's wouldn't power up. After the commercial break they said the problem was they overlooked the four pin connector. Happens to the best of us.
