Thermal Paste question.
Hey guys.
I recently forgot to put the white thermal paste that came with my ASUS fan onto the processor. Now my processor has gray sticky thermal padding on it from the heatsink/fan........ Can I apply the thermal white paste onto the processor even if it has some gray padding on it? It's like this: Processor GrayStuff WhiteThermalStuff GrayStuff Heatsink/fan... Is it okay to have the White Thermal stuff be sandwiched like that? |

All your CPU needs is a thin layer of thermal material between it and the CPU. The heatsink should have had some on it, thats the gray pad. You didnt need to add any more. Too much paste can actually hurt the heat transfer.
If you added the white paste, your best bet is to take it apart, clean the CPU and heatsink and reapply one layer of paste. Otherwise, leave it as is.

Just keep the gray pad on there and don't apply anymore thermal compound. You should not mix both together since they probably have a different composition and it may end up hurting you more than it helps.
Plus, keeping the gray pad on there will NOT void the warranty. |
