Random Lockups When Playing Games

When I play any game, in about 2 minutes into the game, my whole PC locks up and completly freezes, wether it is in window mode or not. Ive tried updating the GPU's drivers but it does no good... I have also tried updating the BIOS...

GPU: EVGA GeForce 7600 GT
Motherboard: MSI K8N NEO4-F
PSU: Antec True Power 2.0 430 watts

errm, if you need more info just ask for it....

Oh by the way, this is on my new computer I just built.

Could be a overheating issue. What are your temperatures?

Do you have the most recent video card drivers installed?

Your temperatures look good and your all set on the video card drivers so...

Could be a PSU issue. The Antec is good but 430w may be a tad bit underpowered for your setup. What are your complete system specifications?

Could also be a faulty memory issue too. Download the following utility and run a test on your memory: http://www.memtest.org/

Is your computer free of viruses and spyware?

Is the fan on the video card running okay?

Does your system freeze only when your playing games? When did this first start occuring?

Hmm...

Try leaving the side off of the case and have a house fan blowing into the side of the case. I just noticed that your system temperatures are equal to your CPU temperatures. Usually the CPU temperatures are higher than the system ones by quite a few degrees.

Do you have intake fans installed in the front and exhaust fans installed in the back of the case?

For the PSU, you have both the 24-pin main and the 4-pin square ATX12V connectors hooked up the the motherboard right?

Usually you can install the fan one way and it will be intake and reverse them and they become exhaust.

Your CPU tempertures looks great.

You can also download the HDD manufacturer's disk utility and run a test on the HDD to make sure that is not the problem.

Okay so I tried it and at first I thought it was working because I got farther in the level then normal, much farther when the system locked up these were its temps

CPU: 43 C
System: 41 C

Update: Just checked the GPU fan, its running fine, possibly a bad powersupply?

UPDATE 2: Well, tried it again with a new driver i downloaded from EVGA's site, with no luck
also whenever the computer locks up, the first 2 times windows locks up on bootup too.... could it possibly be my harddrive? Also the sound still works when it locks up..... bleh ... im lost >.<

Okay, sorry about this triple post but... yeah...

So I tried playing sonic heroes one more time, almost made it to the end of the level but this time the sound started to make a buzzing noise and the screen froze. So im starting to think its the HARDDRIVE and then I tried to boot up windows 4 times and it froze, then I went and had dinner, came back and booted up, it froze, so then I tried one more time and it came back on. So I would just like second opinions if people think its the harddrive, because im THIS CLOSE " holds up 2 fingers almost touching* to RMAing it to Seagate for a replacement.

Run the Seatools from their website. You'll have to do that to get it replaced anyways. If it comes up with problems, then your hard drive is bad and they should replace it under warranty. If it comes up clean, then it's not your hard drive.

Whether or not I think it's the HDD - it sure can't hurt to run the diagnostics on the drive.

Well I tried running it and it freezes up X.X so ........ im guessing its the drive if i cant even run the diagnosis program.

Also , would it be faster to RMA it through Newegg or Seagate, I just ordered it on monday.

Update: Doing RMA through newegg, got the forms and everything *prays the HDD is the problem* Hopefully getting it to UPS tomorrow.

You do know that you are supposed to have active cooling on all your drives? Otherwise they will overheat? Causeing them to barbecue themselves? Do you have some sort of fan intakeing coolair over your hdd's?

And what prog are you using to collect temps? If you use speedfan it should give you a readout of hdd temps.

Shady did you read the EVGA forums about that video card? I put a 7600GT KO in a friends computer recently only to find out later that people were having all kinds of problems during gaming with the EVGA 7600 series. (especially the KO so I dont know about yours).

And okay, Hmmm..... maybe ill wait to do the RMA, should I get 2 80mm fans for the front of my case or a Harddrive cooler? Or both? >.>

hmmmm.... well.... I still think its the HDD over heating. That makes perfect sence as to why it froze when trying to bootup after playing a game... and the videocard seems to be working fine...>< hmmm okay, thanks for the info though

If your case has a port(s) in the front for a fan, get the largest fan you can and put it in there as an intake. If it'll take a 120mm, put a 120mm in. Otherwise, if it'll just take 80mm's, then put an 80mm in.

Theres definatly only room for two 80mm fans. Plus I checked the site for the case and thats what it said

Yeah, that's what it looks like it.

Make sure you don't get a really loud one(s). Generally light-up ones tend to be noisy.

60c is considered the meltdown level for your hdd. It is very very hard to get to that kinda area. Were you atleast useing a exaust fan in the back of the case? Your cpu and video card need proper air flow too.

Two 80mm Intake fans (front)
One 80mm Intake fan (side panel)
One 120mm Exaust fan (back)
