You choose a AM2 motherboard with a 939 socket processor, make your choice...you going 939 or am2?

Get some corsair ddr2 800 if you do indeed plan on going am2.

Beware, 7900gt ko editions have been having some problems. Otherwise fine choice.

And that sound card wont make any difference over onboard. If your buying a secondary sound card then mind as well do it right and go audigy 2 zs or better, X-Fi xtreme music. Motherboard audio has really evovled.

I would choose this psu over your current choice:

You selected a very nice psu, but for the same price this is a bit better. Unless you want to shell out a few extra bucks for the 550W version.

Socket 939 is a socket of it's own, it has 939 pins and uses DDR RAM. Socket AM2 is another socket, it's 940 pins, but not the same as Socket 940 (confusing, huh?). AM2 uses DDR2 RAM. Socket 939 and AM2 CPUs aren't interchangeable, nor are DDR and DDR2.

So, to summarize:
S939 with DDR RAM and appropriate motherboard (here a ASUS A8N5X would be good, or A8N-SLI).
or AM2 with DDR2 RAM (DDR2-800 is best) and appropriate motherboard (ASUS M2N-E or M2N-SLI).

Right now AM2 is kinda picky about the RAM you use. Some Corsair XMS2 DDR2-800 is your best bet. I recall a couple people here using this combo fine.

Ahhhh i see.. thank you for that explaination blue. hmm...so i assume the ram that i chose would not work for a S939 motherboard? oh and which one would have better performance? S939 or AM2?

AM2 is newer better but more expensive and they stop making new processors for 939 but if ur on a budget go for a 939

939 is very forgiving. If I had to choose, I would say anything between ocz and corsair would be good.

Im not forcing you or anything on this, but from my previous post.

And, make sure its a 2x1gb kit, not a single 2gb stick.

And this is the ram everyone is talking about, don't get the ozc ram like me. I'm having a lot of problems with them.

Well is it required that you use the pc builder? Because it is reallly really suggested you get atleast ddr2 800. And you need to get a 2x1gb kit. 2gb stick will give you a pretty decent performance decrease.
