You can get most of the other chips pretty easily, but e6600 is completely MIA, unless you wish to get it from some off edealer.

I would suggest you stay away from newegg as they are completely overpricing all core 2 duo products, including motherboards. The vendors I trust at the moment are www.tankguys.com and second www.zipzoomfly.com . Directron is also nice, I can vouch for that as I am there atleast once a month , but their eta is far away.

I'd like to use the e6600 with that intel D975x motherboard. I was also thinking of pairing those with a WD SE16 250gb and 2gb XMS2 (compatible?). I plan on ordering them after I get back from New York, sometime after the 20th. New goal: gathering $1,700.

Yup, make sure its the Intel Bad axe (975XBX) rev.304.

That corsair is compatible. 975x is usually more forgiving with memory then 965 is at the moment.

$1700 is a really good budget to work with. Good luck with the new build!

Is the Asus p5wdh a better choice than the Intel Bad Axe?

Edit: Also, isn't the P5WDH Crossfire compatible? How about SLi? And could you recommend 1 ATI video card that is basically equivelant in performance and price to the 7900gt?

P5WDH and intel bad axe are both great mobo's. If you ever plan on ocing I would choose the asus otherwise the intel is one rock solid mobo.

P5WDH is crossfire compatible, not sli, sli can only be run with hacked drivers. If you want to run sli wait for the Intel Nforce 570 and 590 chipsets to arrive.

X1800XT 512Mb and X1900XT 512mb are both great alternitives. X1900XT is so cheap right now so see if you can opt for that one.

It can probably take DDR2-800 but the modules will not perform at that speed since the motherboard will bottle neck it.

Go with DDR2-667.
