New build , but don't know where to begin !

Hey guys ,

It's a long time since i've been thinking about a new-build ..but now it's time to update my rig ...
I want to build myself a game-computer again .
what i have now :
asus a7n8x deluxe
2600+ athlon
2x 512mb kingstom mems
hercules ati radeon 9500 pro
80gb hd

when i build this one it wasn't top-notch but it was a well-quality parts pc ...i mean that i've waited for the 2.0 (400mhz fsb) version of the mobo etc ..to have a well-working game-pc , which btw still can perform pretty good nowadays .
This is also what i seek in a new-build ..not the real high-end but a good quality product .
Since i'm not really 'into' the hardware of today , i ask u guys to give me some examples of such a good working game-pc , so i can refresh my knowledge a bit .
I also don't understand about the cpu's that well when i go looking for them in the online shops , so maybe a bit of info here and there is welcome How about dual-core for a gaming-pc f.e. ?

ps: i must say , with all these new technologies it's a bit of a guessing which is good or not for me at the moment ..it's has been easier with the 32-bit configs

Greetings ,
LC

Also, noticing your location, do you have a local store that you use? or a website? so we can look up parts and pricing and provide links. It won't do you much good for use to give you Newegg links when they only ship to the US.

My budget is around 2000€ , but considering i've a compaq mv720 monitor( a very old one bought with my first amd 500 pc) . I think i better buy me a tft also ..a philips or so , i was thinking around 300€
One of the shops i go very often is :
http://www.pctools.be/
I do have to mention, since i've good contacts , i can order any brand or model at that shop , also the ones not on his online-shop
others are :
http://www.padeg.com/categories.php?...num=1&action=e
http://webshop.eurosys.be/
ps: dutch : 'moederborden' = motherboards ; 'geheugen' = memory 'behuizingen' = cases

Greets,
LC

2,000.00 EURO = 2,569.92 USD
That is a pretty good budget.
I would suggest:
E6600 Core 2 Dou
motherboard with an Intel 975 chipset and C2D support and whatever features you want, sli/non-sli etc..
16Mb cache SATA Seagate or Western Digital hard drive/s
2x1gb RAM
