Linux/Home Machine

Hi all-
I am looking to build a new pc to play and learn linux as well as use XP for school/minor multimedia tasks. My budget is $500 for PC only. I would like dual core, PCI Express, don't need great graphics card. Onboard firewire is a plus as well as RAID. Don't need SLI but it wouldn't hurt. I would really like the mobo to have a lot of expandibility to turn it into a more advanced/gaming PC later. Show me what ya got.

no preference to AMD or Intel, what ever is best for the money.

Why do you want a PCI-e x16 slot if you don't need a video card? Not that it's not good to have, I'm just wondering. Future upgradability?

Going AM2 is going to sharply increase the price of ram that will perform properly.
