New build list, please critique

Hey guys, not been around for a while but now i'm looking to buy some parts for a new build as the XP3000 is getting a little sluggish for gaming. Anyways here's my list which has pretty much brought me bang-on my budget

Processor:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 dual-core 4600+
http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/111292/rb/21057226230

MSI K9N Platinum Nforce 570
http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/produ...uct_uid=110733

Ram
Corsair XMS2 1gb matched pair
http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/92870/rb/21054552278

Hard Drives (x4)
Maxtor 7V250 sata 300 7200rpm
http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/103061

PSU
Enermax Liberty 620W modular PSU
http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/106365/rb/21055000475

Graphics cards (2x for SLI ? )
XFS GeForce 7900GT 470M Extreme
http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/113872

Sound
Creative Soundblaster X-Fi extreme
http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/110454

Optical Drives
NEC DVD-RW dual-layer 16x
http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/98442/rb/21055234704
Sony DDU161510 DVD-ROM
http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/94654/rb/21055256623

And a Sony floppy drive to load RAID drivers

Can i have your opinions please guys, i'm not too sure of the PSU and not overly sure of wether i need 2 of those graphics cards for SLI as i'm not too clued up with it. Any advice please. If you guys reckon i've come up with a good build i'll be ordering it all today

Also re-using my existing Coolermaster Tsunami case (not PSU) and other peripherals.

Currently, you have a Socket 939 CPU with a Socket AM2 Motherboard and 240-pin DDR2-800 RAM. You need a Socket AM2 Athlon 64 CPU instead of a Socket 939 CPU. You also currently have a single card motherboard - you will need the K9N SLI if you need to leave the SLI possibility open.

I'm not entirely sold on modular PSUs even if it's from a reputable manufacturer like Enermax. The Seasonic 600 W PSU may be better suited.

Sorry kram, posted wrong link for the processor, also should have mentioned it says this if you click on the specifications tab on the motherboard link. I thought that means it has 2x pci slots for graphics cards. If its not suitable can you recommend an alternative board of their site that would be suitable and still allow me to run 4 sata II hard drives in raid 0 please as this is one of the features i'm looking for

Would this be more suitable:

Wow, running 4 HDDs in RAID 0 mode is like playing with fire...

But its your computer, so do as you like.

Everything else looks okay.

Its mainly gonna be for gaming so nothing really to worry about losing

Back to the motherboard what about this one:

The ASUS M2N-SLI Deluxe board is a good choice.

Wow, so you need 1000GBs (4 x 250GBs) running in RAID 0 mode to play games? I'm not ragging on you, just curious as to how you are thinking.

i'm just a speed freak but on a budget, the maxtors at that size sem good value for money.

So those graphics cards are fine for SLI? and that motherboard does what i want? and the ram/processor selection is ok then?

just to be sure as im ordering this lot in about half hour

RAID 0 is NOT cost effective. Nor is the speed gained noticeable (in some cases, it can slow things down, like response times). About the only time speed gains are noticable is in benchmarks, which are useless for real life. SLI isn't cost effective either. It's not for folks on a budget (but, our definition of "budget" may differ ).

Only problem with that board is if you run it in SLI mode both cards will only be running at x8 mode, NOT x16.

You can read about it here: http://usa.asus.com/products4.aspx?m...&l2=101&l3=301

It is in the "Expansion Slots" section. But... that is still pretty good.

ASUS M2N32-SLI Deluxe Wireless Edition supports two PCI-E cards running in SLI mode at x16.

But there isn't too many other good AM2 boards right now that will run SLI mode at full x16.

Why'd you choose a Cooler Master PSU? Their quality is suspect and I've seen some tests where the PSU doesn't put out the power it claims to. The Seasonic kram 2.0 mentioned would have been a much better choice. Even the Enermax would have been better.

It was a matter of necessity really, this one actually looks to be quite well built which i was pleasantly surprised by and the cabling used also looks to be high quality

Just got it all up and running, still installing stuff and cant wait to see how well it does running games

The enermax liberty 620W is one of the most highest quality powersupplies out there. It beats most psu's that dont have modular cabling. II would choose that thing over a 510W pc power and cooling anyday, which says something.

And your better off with a single 7950GX2 versus those two gt's. It runs cooler, faster, and guzzles less juice.
