Slight bend on cpu pin preventing into socket
Well as the thread indicates I am putting a 3500 AMD 939 into the socket on the mobo and it won't go in. I never thought to check the pins beforehand but I bet I prob bent the pin even though I used extreme care. The pin is on the outer edge and has a pretty good kink. what the heck do I do? Can I take some needle nose and coax it back? Or am I screwed?

Do it VERY gently. Fatigue properties are probably the last concern on the manufacturer's mind when it comes to designing those pins. I'd try installing it on the board out of the case with nothing attached. I'd try to bend it back just far enough so that I could get that ONE problem pin into its hole, and then drop the rest of them down into place once it was in.
Oh, and I'd try a credit card/finger combination before I used anything metallic as a tool. Good luck

Had that happen to me before, I just used a small flat head and my thumb move the pin back to the correct position. But, like everyone said, be CAREFUL.

The credit card did the trick. Thank you
I was extremely worried that I was done and as mentioned the fatigue factor to worry over. Once the processor was in the socket I had to figure out how to mount the heatsink properly. The diagrams were not much use and the MSI booklet was saying something about peeling off sticky stuff(off the bracket on the back of the mobo) and mounting the bracket. My bracket didn't seem to have any so... Anyway I got the heatsink mounted and latched correctly as far as I can tell. I put the heatsink on and then lifted it off before I clamped it. Is it ok to do that to the thermal pad? This is one of those posts easier said in person lol. I must be tired Thanks K |

Yeah, it is okay to do that to the thermal pad a little.
The retailed boxed processor didn't come with instructions on how to mount the heatsink? |
