Thank you!

I am proud to announce that due to the help of PC-mechanic forum users, I have successfully completed building my computer! It's wicked fast, and FUN when you're getting 120FPS on Counter Strike full specs!!!

If you guys could just help me out with this LAST PROBLEM, i'll be on my way to being beneficial to the PC Mechanic community.

Unfortunately, my computer is having trouble installing stuff.... Most of the time when I have an .exe file that I need extracted, it will fail to extract... Do you guys know if this is a software or hardware issue? This didn't happen on my old PC which wasn't built.

THANK YOU SO MUCH.

Congrats on the new build.

What software are you trying to install? Does this only happen to specific ones?

Are you installing the software from CDs?

No, downloaded online from some reliable servers.

I installed my NVIDIA Graphics Drivers from a CD just fine, but files online are giving me a hard time.

Whats an example of a problem

Application name?
Exact file name?
Exact error message?
When do you get the error?
Any options once you see the error?

Sounds like you haven't did your Windows updates yet.
There have been a couple of updates to the windows installer lately.
Most downloaded software uses it.

When installing iTunes:

"Some installation files are corrupt, Please download a fresh copy and re-try the installation"

When installing Americas Army:

"ZIP Damaged:file C:\DOCUME~1\Test\LOCALS~1\Temp\WZE0.TMP\STATIC~1.cab: Bad CRC a678d05 (should be 6e115987). Possible cause: transfer error."

When installing Dawn of War Demo:

"Could not intialize installation. Could not extract Wise0132.dll to 'C:\DOCUME~1\Test\LOCALS~1\Temp\GLCE.tmp', CRC does not match."

All of these error messages don't have an option, just an "Okay" button. I get these error messages seconds after trying to install them.

And Jay where can I find windows updates? I turned windows update automatically on... I haven't recieved any yet so I think i'm caught up.

in internet explorer under tools (or help in some versions i think) you'll see "windows update" to manually check if you're up to date.

could it be a bad internet connection? CRC means the file is damaged. maybe you're getting junk in a times from your connection. It would seem to make sense since your install from the CD works fine.

Do you notice web pages take a little longer then they should to load or any errors when they do load?

Well, I got everything updated and rebooted my comp. Unfortunately those updates didn't fix those install errors.

Perhap's i'll re-download the files and try installing them again... See if that helps.

I would recommend TuneUp Utilities 2006, it seems to be a decent program for computer optimization.

But yes, I would recommend downloading smaller files and seeing if they work. Don't know if I'm stating what others have stated, but yes, America's Army could possibly have been corrupted in the download?

What are the complete system specs for this computer? List the parts by brand and model including the power supply.

Also, what OS are you using? Is it legal?

And what kind of internet connection do you have?

What kind of security software are you using?

Cricket covered most of the questions I would have asked. Did you install all the drivers that came on the motherboard CD? I ask because this happened to another forum member a week or two ago. Turned out he had dual ethernet ports on the motherboard, but had only installed the drivers for one of them. I've gotten into the habbit when I install Windows either for the first or a reinstall, I always install all the drivers that came on CD first, then downloading newer ones if needed. Seems to help most of these problems. Something else to check anyway.

Wierd - When I download files via Limewire or on some other p2p application... It works perfectly. When downloading online (no matter how big or small) the file becomes corrupt.

I installed all the drivers that came with my Mobo CD, but I think i'll check the ASUS website and see if my drivers need updating. I have dual ethernet ports just like that other guy you told me about, so let me check.

well maybe its a problem with firefox. buying a cd will solve it short term but i would try IE cause it sounds like you're going to have problems down the line.
