Hi I am a new member to this forum. I made an account so I can ask a few questions about problems I have experienced booting XP to my custom machine.
When I select my DVD-Rom reader as my boot device, it proceeds to the installation of Windows XP. When the PC reaches the blue Windows XP installation screen, I get the error: "ntfs not found. Press any key to restart." I also recieve other messages saying that it cant not find other .exe files. How should I go about trouble shooting this issue? Is this a hardware issue or a software issue? Thanks. Edit*- Forgot to mention I did not format the Hard Drive. |

It does not do so, as it gets stuck on the screen with the errors finding the .exe files.

Did you delete the previous partition on the HDD first?
Once you do, repartition the hard drive and then format the partition you want to put the OS on. All this can be done with the OS CD. |

I am having pretty much the same issue....new build...new everything....only have one dvd drive ...in the bios I made it first in the boot sequence..place XP pro w sp2 in dvd drive it gives message windows checking set up etc and actually indicates it is loading files....last time it got to third message showing loading some kernal files or something like that...
No matter what it gets to a point where the display never changes....same message shows...dvd drive spinning away but it never gets any further. It is driving me nuts..... |

I resolved the issue. I placed the RAM stick in the wrong slot. The dual channel Ram only supported one Gig per channel. I switched the other Ram stick to the second channel and it worked.
