Red face Computer wont start!

Hey everyone, i am a first timer in putting together a system for my kids. i followed all step 1-25 on putting the system together and the only thing that starts when i hit the power button is the CPU fans and the video card fan. my parts include k8v-x se motherboard, amd sempron 64 processor, 512 mb ddr 400 memory chip, geforce fx 5500 video card, cd rom, cd burner, a drive and 80 gig hard drive which none of the drives turn on. All the connections have been checked and rechecked. please help,
Thank you

Have a read of this thread http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=132409 and do an "out of case" build.
What make and model of power supply did you use?

Do you have the 20-pin main power connector and the 4-pin square ATX12V connector hooked up to the motherboard?

300w may be a little underpowered for your setup. You may want to swap the PSU out with another stronger one and see if it will work.

Try leaving only one stick of memory in at a time.

If that doesn't work, you may have a faulty PSU, motherboard or CPU (check in that order). Only way to find out to to swap them out.

Do you have a little speaker in the case that you can connect to the motherboard in the normal way whilst you are attempting the out of case build?
Try starting your build up with bits and pieces removed ie: the ram, video card or harddrive, the idea being to try and get a BIOS fault beep from the speaker.
Have you reset the BIOS via the jumper on the motherboard?

What is the brand and model of the PSU you swapped it out with?

Make sure you use a good PSU from this list: http://www.forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=131195

Your processor could be dead. Does it look like one of the pins fell off?

Your going to have to replace the processor then. Don't even try installing the damaged CPU. It may do even more damage.

Can you make sure the broken pin is not lodged in the motherboard socket before attempting to fit the new processor, the last thing you want to do is break another pin.
